UN sanctions snap back on Iran’s regime, vindicating Resistance’s long-held warnings
The international community’s decade-long experiment in appeasing the clerical regime in Iran has come to its inevitable conclusion. As of 00:00 GMT on Sunday, September 28, all six UN Security Council resolutions targeting the regime’s illicit nuclear program have been fully reimposed, marking a resounding diplomatic failure for Tehran and a victory for international security. The snapback of sanctions is not a failure of diplomacy, but the direct consequence of a duplicitous regime that never had any intention of honoring its commitments. This decisive action followed the overwhelming defeat of a last-ditch effort by Russia and China to delay the sanctions. Their proposal was soundly rejected in the UN Security Council, securing only four votes in favor, with nine nations voting against it.
Qarchak Prison: Consecutive Deaths Amid Lack of Medical Care
Qarchak Prison in Varamin has once again become a focal point of humanitarian crisis. The recurring deaths of prisoners—primarily due to the systematic denial of medical treatment and the absence of even basic healthcare facilities—underscore both the structural violations of detainees’ rights and the deliberate negligence of judicial and prison authorities. In the latest incidents, Soudabeh Asadi, an inmate imprisoned on financial charges, died on September 16 due to medical neglect and denial of treatment. She endured days of pain and illness without being transferred to a medical facility outside the prison.

Violation of the Right to Access Information under Systematic Censorship by the Ruling Regime in Iran
September 28, the International Day for Universal Access to Information, was first recognized by UNESCO in 2015 and later by the UN General Assembly in 2019. This day emphasizes access to information as an inseparable part of freedom of expression and a foundation for an informed society. In stark contrast, the ruling regime in Iran systematically deprives its citizens of this right through organized censorship, broad internet filtering, shutdowns, and persecution of journalists. According to the 2025 report by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Iran ranks 176 out of 180 countries on the Press Freedom Index, ahead only of Syria, China, North Korea, and Eritrea. Iran is the second-largest jailer of journalists in the world, after China. In the digital sphere, Iran ranked 97 out of 100 countries in internet quality, a direct outcome of state-imposed filtering and restrictions.
What the European ‘Snapback’ Sanctions on Iran Mean
After years of negotiations, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) appears to have come to an end following what Iranian officials themselves described as a significant diplomatic setback. In a tense session at the United Nations Security Council, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, expressed disappointment over the failure of efforts to secure a six-month delay in the reactivation of UN sanctions on Iran. Iran was hit with snapback sanctions on Sunday local time, at a time of high tension in the Middle East. But what does that mean? The draft resolution proposed by Russia and China, described by its sponsors as a “sincere attempt to advance diplomacy,” was rejected after opposition from the United States and the three European powers – the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
New Restrictions Imposed on the Cryptocurrency Market in Iran
At the same time as the Central Bank of Iran’s regime imposed widespread restrictions on the cryptocurrency market in response to the reactivation of the snapback mechanism (triggering of UN sanctions), Tasnim News Agency, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), warned about the possibility of Tether freezing Iranians’ assets. This report may have been published to exert psychological pressure on investors. On Sunday, September 28, Tasnim wrote that Tether might “with intensified restrictions or stricter compliance with sanctioning regimes, put part of domestic investors’ capital at risk of being frozen.” The agency added that Tether’s data shows that so far “thousands of accounts” belonging to Iranian users have been blocked.
Inflation in Iran Surges Again, Warning of Deepening Economic Crisis
Official data shows point-to-point inflation jumped to 45.3% in September, with food prices soaring and experts warning of stagflation and record-breaking inflation in the months ahead. According to the Iranian Statistical Center, point-to-point inflation in September 2025 climbed to 45.3%, marking a sharp 2.9-point increase compared with the previous month. This figure is the clearest sign yet of accelerating inflation in the second half of the year. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) reached 384.6, showing a 3.8% monthly increase. Compared with September 2024, prices rose by 45.3%. Meanwhile, the annual inflation rate hit 37.5%, reflecting sustained pressure on household finances. Notably, the inflation gap across income groups widened, with the poorest households facing 38.4% inflation compared to 36.8% for the wealthiest, underscoring the growing inequality in the cost of living.
