The majority of the Abruzzo Regional Parliament in Italy has issued a forceful statement of support for Iranian opposition leader Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan for a democratic future in Iran. The declaration also calls for the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization and affirms the legitimacy of resistance units’ right to confront the IRGC.
Citing a deteriorating human rights situation, the statement highlights the clerical dictatorship’s record of at least 1,000 executions in 2024 alone and underscores the regime’s escalating crackdown on dissent. It contrasts this brutal repression with the democratic platform of the Iranian opposition, which advocates “no to compulsory hijab, no to compulsory religion, and no to compulsory government.”

The Abruzzo parliament emphasized that the Iranian people’s uprising—especially during the 2022 nationwide protests—was a decisive rejection of both the monarchy and the clerical regime, demanding a democratic republic instead. The statement notes that the regime’s total suppression of political activity makes recognition of the people’s right to resist essential.
“The opposition’s democratic program, especially Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan, offers a national roadmap to end the religious dictatorship and return power to the people,” the statement reads. It also warns that policies of appeasement toward regimes like Tehran or Damascus are not only morally indefensible but also strategically flawed, echoing the Syrian conflict’s lessons about authoritarian fragility.

The parliament declared that the regime’s use of executions and repression stands in stark contrast to the growing influence of democratic resistance, particularly the expanding role of organized protest and the PMOI-led Resistance Units within Iran. It urged governments worldwide to support Rajavi’s vision of a democratic Iran based on gender equality, separation of religion and state, and peaceful coexistence in the region.
In June 2024, more than 4,000 parliamentarians and over 100 former high-ranking government officials across the globe endorsed this vision. The Abruzzo parliament now joins them in what it calls not just a sound policy choice—but a moral imperative.
