NCRI – A former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations led a rousing speech at the “Free Iran” rally in Paris last weekend.

Bill Richardson, the former governor, and congressman from New Mexico, made his speech after Maryam Rajavi, president-elect of the Iranian Resistance.

He asked the crowd: “Was that a great speech by President-elect Rajavi?”, which was met with resounding applause. He also paid tribute to the attendance of the Saudi Prince, Turki bin Faisal Al Saud.

Gov. Richardson, a Democrat, congratulated the other US representatives that had crossed party lines to join the fight for a free and democratic Iran. He told the Iranian people that they had support from around the world; “Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the United States— they’re all here”.

He assessed that the only way to ensure real change in Iran is by overthrowing the mullahs’ regime.

Gov. Richardson said: “You know, they continue their support of terrorism, they continue the executions and human rights violations, they continue to help Bashar Assad in Syria. There are no internal reforms in Iran.”

He then asked the attendees if they would be the democratic alternative in Iran to bring human rights and freedom and democracy? They agreed that they would.

Gov. Richardson said: “The world must stand with the Iranian people and demand the end of the human rights violations and suppression in Iran. Iran should remove their forces from Syria. And we should stand behind the men and women at Camp Liberty.”

A selection of Gov. Richardson’s remarks at the “Free Iran” rally were published on Thursday by The Washington Times.

Camp Liberty houses members of the main Iranian opposition group People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI or MEK).
