Massive Demonstration in Munich Calls for a Firm Stance Against Iran’s Regime

Munich, February 14, 2025 – As the Munich Security Conference (MSC2025) took place, hundreds of Iranian Resistance supporters staged a major demonstration near the conference venue, despite temperatures dropping to 12 degrees below zero. The protesters sent a strong message to European governments and international policymakers, urging them to adopt a firm stance against the Iranian regime, highlighting its threats to global security.

The demonstrators, who are supporters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), emphasized the need to end Western appeasement policies toward Tehran and called for the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. They also demanded the reactivation of UN Security Council resolutions concerning Iran’s nuclear program, warning that Tehran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons remains a grave threat to regional and global stability.

Calls for a Fundamental Shift in Western Policy Toward Iran

Holding banners and chanting slogans, the protesters condemned domestic repression, Iran’s regional destabilization efforts, and its nuclear ambitions. Their key demands centered on three main points:

  1. A fundamental shift in Western policies toward Iran – Protesters rejected any form of engagement that grants legitimacy to the regime, urging European governments to abandon appeasement and adopt a firm and comprehensive approach toward Tehran.
  2. Full activation of the “snapback mechanism” against Iran’s nuclear program – Addressing European leaders, they stressed the urgent need to reinstate all UN Security Council resolutions regarding Iran’s nuclear activities, warning that Tehran’s nuclear threat poses a critical challenge to global security.
  3. Blacklisting the IRGC – The demonstrators reiterated that the IRGC is the primary tool of repression and terrorism, both inside Iran and abroad, and called on the EU and the UK to officially designate it as a terrorist entity.

In a post on X, Mohammad Mohaddessin, Chairman of the NCRI Foreign Affairs Committee, emphasized that the international community had been repeatedly warned about the threats posed by the Iranian regime, yet had failed to take the necessary steps to confront them.

Mohaddessin wrote:
“If the Munich Security Conference wants to take an effective step, it must make confronting the threats of Iran’s regime a priority. 33 years ago, we declared “Islamic fundamentalism is the new global threat” led by the mullahs. Those in power did not take it seriously, otherwise fate would have been different, and great tragedies such as 9/11, the bloody tragedy of Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen, and the current war in the region could have been prevented. We also exposed the regime’s secret nuclear projects since 1991, especially in 2002, but instead of a decisive approach, the regime was given incentives from the European Troika and the P5+1 and the opportunity to acquire an atomic bomb. Today, world leaders are facing a new test in Munich.”

Beyond political demands, the protesters made it clear that they reject all forms of dictatorship, whether under the mullahs or the monarchy. They chanted: “Down with the oppressor, be it the Shah or the Mullahs,” underscoring their demand for a secular and democratic republic in Iran.

In a related development, esteemed German figures have published a statement on Iran, aimed at world leaders attending the MSC, urging them to “stand firmly with the courageous Iranian people in their struggle to end the religious dictatorship and establish a truly democratic and secular republic.”

The signatories stressed that through their nationwide uprisings, the people of Iran have clearly demonstrated their desire for an end to the current regime.

“We denounce the clerical dictatorship for its oppressive governance and human rights abuses, and we also reject the dictatorship of the former Shah, acknowledging the suffering under both regimes,” they wrote.

The signatories also expressed their support for Iranians who took part in the large Free Iran Rally which took place in Paris on February 8 with the slogan: “No to the Dictator, be it the Shah or the Mullahs, Yes to a Democratic Republic.”

“We endorse the 10-point plan of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), which in 2024 received support from over 4,000 MPs and 137 former world leaders, as a viable blueprint for a future free Iran,” they wrote. “We call upon governments worldwide to recognise the Iranian people’s right to self-determination and liberation from tyranny. The time for change is now; the people of Iran deserve freedom, justice, and democracy.”
