Time to be firm on Iran regime, support opposition – Belgian MP

Jean-Pierre Malmendier, member of the Belgian ParliamentNCRI – A member of the Belgian Parliament called for The Iranian regime’s nuclear dossier and human rights violations to be referred to the Security Council.

Jean-Pierre Malmendier from the Belgian Liberal Party made his point in a rally in protest against repugnant remarks by Iranian regime’s president Ahmadinejad, and the regime’s nuclear and terrorist threats, in Brussels on Tuesday, December 21.

Excerpts of his message to hundreds of Iranians and supporters of the Iranian Resistance gathered in front of the European Union headquarters are as follows:
We have all been extremely troubled by continued remarks from Iran’s new president against Israel and the Jewish people.
When he first made these comments about two months ago, some people thought it was a mistake, or that he used wrong words. But when he, at least in three other occasions, defended the same remarks, we noticed that they were not made by accident.
This president displays the true face of the Iranian regime to the world. The same face that people like Khatami had been trying to cover and hide for many years.
He made his stand very clear when prior to his election he said: “We did not have a revolution for democracy” and a few days after he was elected stated: “the waves of a New Islamic revolution will soon spread to the entire world.”
These are all part of Iranian regime’s foreign policy agenda. During Khomeini, they had a dream of creating an Islamic Empire that would reach Jerusalem via Karbala, a holly Shiite city in Iraq. Today they are hoping to fulfill this dream by advancing in Iraq and threatening Israel.
They have a full agenda to try to force the international community to accept their demands. Acquiring nuclear weapons are also part of this same policy that could help them become the dominant power in the Middle East which could then impose its power over the whole region.
Inside Iran mullahs never stopped repression and killings at any stage. For the past 26 years more than 120 thousand political opponents have been executed. Many of them were buried in secret mass graves without even anyone knowing their names. The number of public executions, especially of young people has increased dramatically after the presidential elections in June.
It is now time for us to be firm on Iran. We have to put an end to the policy of appeasement. This policy has only emboldened the ruling theocracy in Iran and made them more aggressive and arrogant.
Part of the package of being nice to the regime has been to be harsh on its opposition. The Iranian main opposition movement, People’s Mojahedin, was placed in EU’s blacklist in 2002 following an agreement that EU made with Iran to not annoy Khatami and his so-called “reforms.”

This has been a gross mistake, it has had an opposite effect. In fact, this has become the main obstacle for a democratic change in Iran and it has reassured the regime that the opposition is blocked so it feels free to advance in all domains and become more and more arrogant.
We need to have change quickly. There should be no more negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program. The regime’s nuclear dossier and its human rights violations must be referred to the Security Council.
We must also send a clear message to the Iranian People that we stand on their side and not on the side of the regime. The best way of doing this is to remove the People’s Mojahedin from the EU terrorist list. This would pave the way for all democratic opposition movements to help achieve a democratic change in Iran.
