Iran’s prisons are ‘drug addiction camps’

NCRI – Prisons in Iran are becoming ‘drug addiction camps’ with the average age of abusers now below 20, according to reports from inside the regime.

Prisons in Qezel-hesar and Kahrizak have the highest drug abuse figures, with the commonest drugs taken by inmates being methamphetamines like ‘glass’, crack and hallucination pills.

Prisoners have easy access to illicit substances, which are brought into prisons by wardens and distributed by inmate gangs.

According to some studies, 85 per cent of youths now have easy access to drugs.

Drugs are also now more common within prisons than in society, meaning inmates are more likely to be freed as addicts, the reports said.
