The attempt by Iran’s regime to politically exploit the recent Mina tragedy in Saudi Arabia is an extension of its historical record in harming pilgrims, causing chaos in the Haj and disturbing the sacred atmosphere of the Haj season, a senior Saudi Shoura Council member said.

Addressing the 133rd session of the General Assembly of the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) on Tuesday in Geneva, Assistant Speaker of the Shoura Council Dr. Yahya Bin Abdullah Al-Samaan said Iran’s regime tried to create chaos during Haj seasons.

“Al-Samaan said Iran was the only country in the world that had committed crimes during Haj in the Kingdom,” Arab News reported on Wednesday.

The world was well aware of what had transpired in the 1980s, even though Tehran was conveniently trying to forget these incidents, he said.

Saudi Arabia had then prevented Iran’s regime from causing chaos during Haj, and would do so again in the wake of the tragic events that occurred in Mina during the Haj this year, he said.

He added that Saudi Arabia will not allow the Iranian regime to exploit the September 24 Mina tragedy.

He said the Iranian regime’s attempts to politicize the tragedy of this year’s deadly stampede showed no respect for the victims and the sanctity of the holy sites.
