In a powerful show of solidarity, more than 3,000 prominent figures from 87 countries have endorsed a global call to end executions in Iran. Coinciding with International Human Rights Day, the signatories—comprising former presidents, prime ministers, ministers, UN officials, human rights advocates, Nobel laureates, and over 600 French mayors—issued a statement supporting the “No to Executions” campaign led by Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).
The statement underscores the escalating use of executions by Iranian authorities as a political weapon to instill fear and suppress dissent. Highlighting that Iran accounted for 74% of global executions in 2023, the signatories condemned the regime’s actions as crimes against humanity.
Supporters praised Rajavi’s steadfast commitment to abolishing the death penalty, reflected in her Ten-Point Plan for a democratic Iran. The statement noted her reiteration of this goal at the International Jurists’ Conference in Paris in August 2024.
