Iran: Fire Festival crackdown

Active ImageNCRI – Last Wednesday of every year is a nightmare for the mullahs' regime in Iran since men, women and children turnout in thousands to celebrate the traditional Fire Festival throughout the country.

Brig. Gen. Ahmadreza Radan, chief of State Security Forces (SSF) in Greater Tehran threatened the citizens with harsh treatment should they not abide by the strict rules he set on Sunday.

Radan, speaking in a press conference in Tehran, said that the people should cooperate with the police force if they want to have good celebrations.

"Police will deal swiftly with those rogue elements that are after breaking the law," said Radan.

The SSF chief further added, "The undercover SSF agents will have the complete control and take pictures as evidence" for later indictment of the violators.

"No-one is allowed to make traffic jams and all police force will be in uniform or conduct undercover to control the situation," Radan added.

The police chief further added, "The SSF undercover teams would monitor every suspicious move."

"Inviting people via internet is strictly forbidden and no one has asked for permission to do so," he referred to an invitations posted on internet for teenagers to show up for Fire Festival in Chitgar Park in Tehran.

At the end of his press conference he made sure that his interlocutors meaning the youth heard him clearly.

Every year the Fire Festival turns into a showdown between people and the youth on the one hand and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Bassij paramilitary force, plain cloths agents and other suppressive forces across the nation on the other.

Last year, despite the extensive crackdown the celebrations turned into anti-government protests, setting fire to pictures of leaders of the Iranian regime.  The participants chanted slogans in support of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).
