Iraqi leaders furious over Iranian regime meddling, says VP

Iraqi Vice President, Taqriq al-HashemiNCRI – The Vice President of Iraq, Tariq al-Hashemi, talked in an interview with Aljazeera on Sunday about the Iranian regime’s meddling in Iraq, saying, “Many Iraqi leaders are furious over the meddling.”

In response to a question about what he has heard regarding the visit of a delegation from al-Iraqiya List to Iran, al-Hashemi stated, “The Iranian regime still talks about Shiites and Sunnis and not the winners and especially the al-Iraqiya List. … This means that it wants the next prime minister to be from the two (Shiite) coalitions. But, even as we hear good rhetoric behind closed doors, many leaders are furious over the meddling.”

The Iraqi Vice President added, “If the right of al-Iraqiya to form a government as the winner of the elections is ignored, then the resulting government will be illegal.”

“Today, there are those who oppose the premiership of Ayad Allawi and there are some who do not want Tariq al-Hashemi to be president. These are sentiments that we were extremely sorry to hear right after the Norouz conference in Tehran.”

Al-Hashemi added, “I must emphasize that now the issue for al-Iraqiya List is not just its legal rights. This list has personalities who are able to lead the changes that we are waiting for.”
