UN Must Investigate Iran’s 1988 Massacre
In the summer of 1988, the Iranian regime summarily and extra-judicially executed tens of thousands of political prisoners held in jails across Iran. The massacre was carried out on the basis of a fatwa by the regime’s then-Supreme Leader Ruhollah Khomeini.
The facts:
• More than 30,000 political prisoners were massacred in Iran in the summer of 1988.
• The massacre was carried out on the basis of a fatwa by Khomeini.
• The vast majority of the victims were activists of the opposition People's Mojahedin (PMOI, Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK).
• Death Commissions approved all the death sentences.
• Alireza Avaei, a member of the Death Commissions, is today Hassan Rouhani’s Justice Minister.
• The perpetrators of the 1988 massacre have never been brought to justice.
• On August 9, 2016, an audio tape was published for the first time of Khomeini’s former heir acknowledging that that massacre took place and had been ordered at the highest levels.
• It's time for the UN to investigate Iran's 1988 massacre.
Free Iran rally in London by MEK supporters
More than 3,000 Iranians marched in London on July 27, 2019 to urge Britain to list the regime's Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization.
Supporters of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), otherwise known as the Mujahedin e Khalq (MEK), and the National Council of Resistance of Iran held the protest to call on the UK to impose sanctions against the Iranian regime.
They urge Britain to blacklist the Iranian regime's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and the Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei’s office as terrorist entities.
NCRI’s president-elect Maryam Rajavi told the demonstrators: “Your demonstration in London today is the culmination of a series of Free Iran protest rallies that ran from Brussels to Washington, Berlin to Stockholm in a month and a half.
Message to the Iranians’ rally in London
Iranians and supporters of the Iranian Resistance held a major rally in London, on Saturday, July 27, 2019, following the previous demonstrations in Brussels, Washington, D.C., Berlin and Stockholm, to convey the voice of the Iranian people to the world.
In a video message to this demonstration, Maryam Rajavi said, “Your demonstration today in London, marks the peak of a series of Free Iran rallies taken place over the past one-and-a-half months in Brussels, Washington, D.C., Berlin, and Stockholm. It is also an extension of the Iranian Resistance’s 5-day annual gatherings, two weeks ago, at Asharf-3.”
She added, “We urge Britain and Europe to stand on the side of the people of Iran for regime change. The era of religious fascism is coming to an end; Iran will be free. We will take back our most beautiful homeland by the resistance units and the Army of Freedom.”
