Iraqi agents obstruct burial of Camp Liberty resident who died due to medical siege

jalal-abedini

Forty days after the passing away of Mr. Jalal Abedini due to the medical blockade, Iraqi forces still refuse to hand over his body for burial. Mr. Abedinin lost his life on April 17 because of a too late surgery on his intestine tumor in a hospital in Baghdad.

This antihuman and anti-Islamic measure is despite the fact that all related administrative and legal work for the burial have been completed. However, Sadeq Mohammed Kadhim and Ahmed Khozair who have been involved in the massacres of Ashraf residents since 2009 and are now managing Camp Liberty on behalf of the Governmental Committee tasked to suppress Ashraf, are obstructing the burial of Jalal Abedini. Repeated referrals of residents’ representatives and legal advisors to the Iraqi forces, UNAMI and UNHCR have proved in vain so far. This measure is an unmistakable example of psychological torture that is being implemented against Liberty residents at the behest of the Iranian regime.

The Iranian Resistance calls on the United Nations Secretary-General, the High Commissioner for Refugees, and the High Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as U.S. officials, to take immediate steps to end these antihuman actions that violate many international laws and covenants which demand respecting the bodies of the deceased.
