IRAN: All the men in Roushanabad village executed

A vice president of the Iranian regime recently acknowledged that all the men in a village in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchistan had been executed. That village has now been identified as Roushanabad.

The village is located some 100 kilometer southwestern of Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchistan province.

In an interview with the state-run Mehr news agency on February 25, Shahindokht Molaverdi, Hassan Rouhani’s deputy for Women and Family Affairs, said: “We have a village in Sistan and Baluchistan in which all of the men have been executed.” She did not identify the village.

Two and a half years ago, when Rouhani became the president of the religious dictatorship, he claimed to be a moderate. However, since he has taken office some 2300 executions have taken place in Iran.

Amnesty International wrote in its recent annual report: “Unfair trials continued, in some cases resulting in death sentences… Courts imposed death sentences for a range of crimes; many prisoners, including at least four juvenile offenders, were executed.”

“Many trials, including some that resulted in death sentences, were grossly unfair. Prior to trial, the accused were frequently detained for weeks or months during which they had little or no access to lawyers or their families, and were coerced into writing or signing ‘confessions’ that were then used as the main evidence against them in unfair proceedings,” the report added.
