John Bolton opposes Iran nuclear deal

The mullahs’ regime in Iran can’t be trusted to adhere to the proposed “nuclear deal” meant to stop it short of gaining a nuclear weapon, former United States ambassador to the United Nations John R. Bolton said Wednesday.

Amb. Bolton told a town hall meeting said he believes the regime in Iran is likely to “behave” itself until it wins release of an estimated $150 billion in frozen assets, through a deal requiring it to limit nuclear production to non-weapons uses.

Once it has those funds, Tehran will continue to pursue gaining nuclear weapons and its role as “principal banker” for terrorist activities in the Middle East and elsewhere, he said, according to the Mansfield News Journal.

“The world is about to become a more dangerous place, once Iran gets nuclear weapons,” Amb. Bolton said. “This is, I think, one of the worst deals we’ve signed off on in a long time.”

The former U.N. ambassador said he believes Iran is secretly still seeking nuclear weapons, and that restrictions under the nuclear deal are too weak to prevent that continued pursuit. “They are basically free to operate within these constrictions for an eight to 10 year period, then the constrictions come off,” Amb. Bolton said.
