On June 21, at the Free Iran 2026 World Summit in Paris, Spanish Senator Íñigo Fernández García reaffirmed the commitment of Spanish parliamentarians to the cause of democratic change in Iran. Representing both himself and Senator Isabel Moreno, Fernández García delivered a message of solidarity to Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, characterizing her leadership and her Ten-Point Plan as the essential solution for the future of the Iranian people.
Highlighting a February 2025 resolution from the Spanish Senate, the Senator emphasized that the document explicitly supports human rights, women’s equality, and the NCRI as a blueprint for a democratic transition. Seeking to build upon this formal stance, Senator Fernández García announced that he and his colleagues are coordinating with the leadership of the Spanish Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee to formally invite Mrs. Rajavi to address the Senate in the coming weeks.
Senator Fernández García argued that the struggle for a free Iran is not merely a regional concern but a vital necessity for global security. He identified the current regime as the primary architect of instability in the Middle East, citing its support for terrorism and pursuit of nuclear capabilities. Contrasting the regime’s “Middle Ages” approach to governance with the democratic aspirations of Iran’s youth, he framed the movement as a choice for 21st-century progress.
Concluding his address, the Senator promised that international democratic support for the resistance would persist, vowing that he and his allies would stand with the movement until they can join the people in a free Tehran.
The full text of Senator Íñigo Fernández García‘s speech follows:
Good evening. First of all, sorry because it’s my first speech in English in my life.
I think everything has been said during yesterday and during this evening. But I want to tell you three words more, in the name of Isabel, Spanish Senator from Melilla, and in my own name, Spanish Senator from Cantabria.
Maryam Rajavi, we are here because of you. We are here because we believe in you.
We are here because we believe in your words, in your work, in you as a solution for the Iranian people.
We are here today, and we will be here with you the next year, and the next year, and in the future, forever.
We are here with you today, and in the future, we will be with you in Tehran.
This paper is a resolution of the Spanish Senate. It is from February 2025. It talked about Iran. It talked about human rights. It talked about freedom.
It talked about the role of the European Union in support of the democratic opposition in Iran. It talked about women’s rights. It talked about ending executions in Iran.
And specifically, it talks about the Ten-Point Plan of Maryam Rajavi as a solution for the Iranian people.
But we don’t stop here. We don’t stop with this resolution.
In the next weeks, we want to talk with all the parties in Spain in order to invite Maryam Rajavi to talk to us in the Spanish Senate.
Yesterday we were talking about this with Pilar Rojo. She is the president of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Senate. We are talking about inviting you.
It’s very important for us because we are parliamentarians. We need to be understood by our citizens. We have to explain to them what we are doing and why.
And we need you in Spain, to talk to the people of Spain.
This resolution talks about human rights, democracy, and freedom, like in Venezuela, for example. We were working about Venezuela from Spain. But on this point, there is a difference with Venezuela.

Everybody wants freedom. But in the Iranian case, it’s freedom, but it’s security for all of us. It’s peace for all of us.
These reasons are very good reasons to stay here today. But we are thinking of peace; we are thinking of security. We are thinking of our own security, too. And this is very important for public opinion in Europe.
The Iranian regime is the primary enemy of stability in the Middle East. The Iranian regime is one of the most important problems for peace in the world.
The Iranian regime sends money to terrorist groups. The Iranian regime wants to have atomic bombs. We have to do something to stop this danger for all of us.
Somebody said yesterday, people want to choose. People in Iran want to choose. In all the world, people want to choose.
People want to choose between the past and the future. People want to choose between living in the Middle Ages or living in the 21st century.
All the young people in this hall want to live in the 21st century. All the people in Albania want to live in the 21st century.
We want to see the future, not to live in the Middle Ages like some people want.
To finish, Maryam Rajavi, the Iranian people ask for you. The Iranian people need you.
All the democratic people in the world ask for you. All the democratic people in the world need you.
You are not alone. We are here with you, all of us. We are here with you now and tomorrow, forever.
This is the way. This is the hope. Freedom and peace.
