During the week of September 6–12, 2026, Resistance Units affiliated with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) carried out a massive, coordinated nationwide campaign across Iran to mark the 61st anniversary of the founding of the MEK and the election of Mahnaz Maimanat as the organization’s new Secretary General. The week’s intense mobilization included a dedicated wave of 61 direct operations targeting regime security and propaganda facilities as a specific tribute to the 61st anniversary, alongside widespread public acts of defiance by the “No to Execution Tuesdays” movement, extensive banner campaigns rejecting both monarchical and clerical dictatorships, and tributes organized by political prisoners inside state prisons.

In Zahedan, Resistance Units conducted a public placard and banner campaign across major avenues to commemorate the MEK’s 61st founding anniversary and celebrate the election of Mahnaz Maimanat as Secretary General. The displays featured quotes from resistance leadership emphasizing women’s emancipation, organized resistance, and the explicit rejection of all forms of authoritarianism through slogans such as “Neither Shah nor the mullah, freedom and a democratic republic” and “A dictator is a dictator, whether with a turban or a crown”. Activists emphasized that regime change will occur from within Iranian society through organized resistance.

As a specific tribute marking six decades of anti-dictatorial struggle, Resistance Units carried out a synchronized campaign of 61 targeted operations against government infrastructure, IRGC Basij centers, surveillance systems, and state propaganda across more than a dozen cities:
- High-Value Security Targets: Explosions and arson actions attacks targeted the municipality building in Robat Karim (Tehran), a fundamentalism center in Mashhad, judiciary facilities in Gorgan and Kaki (Bushehr), and IRGC Basij command sites in Javardeh (Kohgiluyeh), Chabahar, Iranshahr, and Bam.
- Disrupting Surveillance Infrastructure: Activists set fire to Ministry of Intelligence espionage signs and IRGC informant guidance markers in Tehran, Chabahar, Rask, and Pishin.
- Targeting Leadership Imagery: Billboards and banners depicting Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Mojtaba Khamenei, and Qasem Soleimani were destroyed or set ablaze in Tehran, Karaj, Mashhad, Shiraz, Kermanshah, Bushehr, Qazvin, Birjand, Maragheh, Borazjan, and Arak.

Activists distributed flyers and staged photo demonstrations demanding the immediate revocation of death sentences for political prisoners—including 22-year-old student Ehsan Faridi, Isa Chari, Masoud Jamei, and Alireza Merdasi. Demonstrators also placed floral wreaths honoring executed heroes such as Babak Alipour, Mehdi Khanki, Behrouz Ehsani, and Ali Akbar Daneshvarkar, asserting that capital punishment is an instrument of state survival.

- Commemorations & Tributes: Resistance Units in Tehran, Tabriz, Karaj, Shiraz, Urmia, and Zanjan set up memorial displays with flowers, candles, and portraits honoring MEK founders Mohammad Hanifnejad, Saeid Mohsen, and Ali Asghar Badizadegan. Wreaths and formal tributes were also sent on behalf of political prisoners in Ghezel Hesar Prison, accompanied by open letters from death-row and political detainees—including Arghavan Fallahi, Forough Taghipour, Parisa Kamali, Mehdi Vafaei Sani, Meysam Dehbanzadeh, and Mohammad Javad Vafaei Sani—reaffirming generational continuity in the struggle for freedom.

- Regime Reaction to Karaj Motorcade: State media and judicial authorities in Alborz Province scrambled to respond to widely circulated footage showing a Resistance Unit motorcade parading through Karaj while waving MEK flags. In an effort to downplay the breach, state judicial officials claimed the motorcade was hired via an online app under the guise of a “61st birthday celebration,” a claim widely ridiculed as state embarrassment in the face of organized resistance.
