The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign issued its latest statement on November 3, 2026, marking its 145th consecutive week of hunger strikes across 66 prisons in Iran. The update highlights growing global disgust toward capital punishment in Iran, citing new endorsements from international human rights figures, bar associations, and diplomatic bodies.
Two More UN Officials Join Hunger Strike Campaign
In a continued expansion of international solidarity, two additional United Nations mandate holders joined the campaign:
- Andrea Bolaños Vargas: UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights Defenders.
- Ana Lorena Delgadillo: Member of the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances.
These endorsements follow earlier declarations of support and active participation by UN Special Rapporteurs Gina Romero (Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and Association) and Leopoldo Maldonado (Freedom of Opinion and Expression).
The statement also noted strong international condemnations of Iran’s execution surge from Alexis Anagnostakis, Chairman of the Human Rights Committee of the European Criminal Bar Association (ECBA), as well as the Human Rights Division of Global Affairs Canada.
Today Ana Lorena Delgadillo @analorenadp is joining the #NoToExecutionTuesday campaign. All executions and enforced disappearances must stop. We stand will all of those sentenced to death. A moratorium is urgently needed as a step toward abolition. pic.twitter.com/i3zyHROE1H

Welcoming the international response, campaign organizers stated: “The solidarity and joining of two UN rapporteurs, Ms. Andrea Bolaños Vargas, UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights Defenders, and Ana Lorena Delgadillo, member of the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances, to this campaign—along with the condemnation of escalating executions by Alexis Anagnostakis, Chair of the Human Rights Committee of the European Criminal Bar Association, and the Human Rights Office of Foreign Affairs Canada—demonstrate the expansion of global disgust at the death penalty in Iran. The era of medieval punishments has ended, and the international community, in unison with the Iranian people, demands the right to life, freedom, and human dignity.”
At Least 25 Executed in Six Days
Despite mounting international diplomatic pressure, state authorities continue to carry out executions at an alarming rate. The statement reported that during the first six days of late October (October 23–28), at least 25 prisoners were executed, with 22 hanged over a two-day period (October 27–28).
Organizers highlighted ongoing death sentences issued against political detainees, reiterating that state threats will not quell domestic resistance: “Without defending the right to life, defending other human rights is meaningless. ‘No to Execution’ must be placed at the top of every demand, slogan, and protest movement… We, the participating prisoners in the ‘No to Execution Tuesdays‘ campaign, declare that neither threats nor execution sentences will silence the voice of protest against this inhumane punishment. We demand the immediate revocation of death sentences and a complete halt to the killing machine in Iran.”
