Subsidy lift hurts bakers in Iran

NCRI – The Iranian regime’s decision to lift subsidies has placed the country’s bakeries in a precarious position, according to Iran Khabar on Saturday.

Following the subsidy removals, prices of flour have increased almost seven-fold, resulting in a 40 percent decline in demand for bread, according to reports.

Bakers in Tehran were quoted by Iran Khabar as saying, “Despite a price hike for bread, the quality has remained unchanged. State-run TV claims that the quality has changed, but it’s not true.”

“The flour supplied by the government has not changed,” he said. “Bakers spend almost all their income on buying flour, and have virtually no profits.”
