Forced transfers and inhumane deprivations used to torment political prisoners
In tandem with the rising wave of executions of supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and rebellious youths in prisons, as well as the arrest of families and supporters of the PMOI, the ruling religious fascism in Iran has intensified pressure and restrictions on political prisoners.
On Monday, August 3, 2026, 100 prisoners, mostly ordinary criminals, were transferred from Fashafouyeh (Greater Tehran Prison) to Evin Prison and the political prisoners’ wards. This measure is aimed at harassing and tormenting political prisoners.
On Sunday, August 2, 2026, Afshin Rangriz Heirati, a political prisoner supporting the PMOI, was forcibly transferred from Ward 2 of Evin Prison to a ward housing ordinary criminals.
Sattar Babaei, a political prisoner supporting the PMOI, has been held in limbo for five months in Ziabar Prison in Rasht. At the time of his arrest in March 2026, regime agents plundered and looted all his personal belongings and documents, including his mobile phone, laptop, and even his house deeds.
On Monday, August 3, 2026, political prisoner Hojjat Alizadegan was exiled from Yazd Prison to Saravan Prison, while Abdolsalam Shahmiri was exiled from Zahedan Prison to Iranshahr Prison.
Living conditions in Gonbad-e Qabus Prison are highly critical. Prison guards provide only one loaf of bread for every three prisoners, and the prison store refuses to sell bread. Consequently, families of these prisoners must endure immense hardship to bring bread to their loved ones from the outside.
The Iranian Resistance strongly condemns the intensified pressure on political prisoners and once again calls for an international fact-finding mission to visit Iran’s prisons and meet with the detainees, particularly political prisoners.
