Iran: 81 Executions in the Month of Tir, Concurrent with Muharram

A 170% increase compared to same period last year

  • 21 executions on 20, 21 and 23 of July, including six Baluchi compatriots

  • 1,459 executions under Pezeshkian’s presidency

Khamenei’s executioners sent 16 prisoners to the gallows on July 20 and 21 in the cities of Yazd, Kerman, Rasht, Arak, and Zahedan. As a result, the number of executions in Tir 1404 (June 22-July 22) reached 81, despite coinciding with the month of Muharram — a 170% increase compared to the 30 executions in Tir 1403. This brings the number of executions during one year of Pezeshkian’s presidency to at least 1,459.

On Thursday, July 24, Peyman Mohammadrezaei was executed in Buin Zahra. On Wednesday, July 23, Mehdi Heidari Torkashvand, 35, was executed in Hamedan; Houshang Mahmoudian, 35, and Saman Heidari, 40, in Shiraz; Rouhollah Arab, 30, in Semnan; and Jahangir Fouladi in Zanjan.

On Monday, July 21, 10 prisoners were hanged, including: Mohammad Amin Habibi in Kerman, Khodabakhsh Sepehri in Rasht, Mohammad Javad Zare in Arak, and seven inmates in Yazd prison. On Sunday, July 20, six Baluchi compatriots were hanged in Zahedan.
