Under Pressure and Torture in Connection with the Deaths of Moghiseh and Razini

The Iranian Resistance calls on the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Human Rights Council, and the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran to take urgent action to save the lives of political prisoners Arghavan Fallahi, Bijan Kazemi, and Mohammad and Amirhossein Akbari Monfared, who have been under prolonged interrogation and torture in an attempt to extract forced and fabricated confessions related to the deaths of regime executioners Moghiseh and Razini.

Arghavan Fallahi, 25 years old, was arrested at her home in Parand (Tehran) on January 25, 2025, and transferred to Ward 241 of Evin Prison, run by the Judiciary’s Intelligence Protection Unit. Her case is being handled at Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court under the supervision of the notorious Judge Iman Afshari. She spent approximately five months in solitary confinement in Ward 241 and, after the bombing and evacuation of Evin, was moved to solitary confinement in Fashafouyeh (Greater Tehran Prison). Arghavan had previously been arrested in November 2022 along with her father, Nasrollah Fallahi, a political prisoner from the 1980s, and was later released. Nasrollah, who is currently serving a five-year prison sentence, is now held in Fashafouyeh Prison.

Bijan Kazemi, 44 years old, was arrested by intelligence agents in Kuhdasht on January 20, 2025, and transferred a few days later to solitary confinement in Ward 209 of Evin Prison. Interrogators claim he provided weapons to the assailants of Razini and Moghiseh, two of Khamenei’s judiciary’s top executioners. Bijan was previously arrested in March 2020 and imprisoned for over two years in Khorramabad Prison. He was released under electronic surveillance with an ankle monitor that remained on him for a year and a half. He is currently held in solitary confinement in one of the sections of Fashafouyeh Prison.

Amirhossein Akbari Monfared, 22 years old, was arrested on January 19, 2025, one day after the deaths of Razini and Moghiseh, following a raid by intelligence agents on his home. He was taken to Ward 209 of Evin Prison and has been subjected to severe torture in an attempt to extract forced confessions. He is now also held in one of the sections of Fashafouyeh Prison.

On January 21, 2025, intelligence agents raided the same house again and arrested Mohammad Akbari Monfared, Amirhossein’s father. Mohammad Akbari Monfared is a political prisoner from the 1980s who was also arrested during the 2022 uprising. He spent five months in solitary confinement in Ward 209 of Evin Prison.

Four members of the Akbari Monfared family—PMOI members Alireza, Gholamreza, Abdolreza, and Roghieh Akbari Monfared—were executed by Khomeini’s executioners in the 1980s. Their sister, Maryam Akbari Monfared, is now serving her sixteenth year in prison for seeking justice for her martyred siblings and has not been granted a single day of medical leave to date.
