Call for Urgent Action to Free Ill Political Prisoners

Political prisoner Mehran Gharebaghi in Sheiban Prison of Ahvaz, who suffers from heart disease and eye pain and has recently contracted an intestinal infection due to contaminated water and food in the prison, is deprived of minimal medical attention. The prison guards not only fail to take action for his treatment but also prevent his family from providing means for his medical care outside the prison. Mehran, 32 years old, who has been in prison since 2019, has been sentenced to 11 years imprisonment.

Political prisoner Fatemeh Ziaei Azad, who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis (MS), endures severe pain and is denied access to doctors and essential medications in prison. Fatemeh Ziaei, whose two daughters are members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), was a prisoner in the 1980s and has been arrested multiple times in recent years, spending a total of more than 10 years in the prisons and torture chambers of this regime. She was most recently sentenced to 6 and half years in prison in September 2022.

Political prisoner Mir Youssef Younesi, 70 years old, in Evin Prison, needs surgery due to illness and pain in the abdominal and ear areas, but prison guards prevent his transfer to the hospital. His family has reserved a hospital bed and specialist doctor for him three times so far, but each time, at the last moment, prison guards have obstructed his transfer through deliberate interference.

Manouchehr Fallah and Hafez Forouhi, two political prisoners in Lakan Prison in Rasht, have been on a hunger strike since July 22, 2024, protesting their undetermined status. Hafez Forouhi, one of those arrested during the nationwide uprising of 2022, has been in an undetermined state for 19 months. Manouchehr Fallah, 34 years old, was arrested in June 2023, and although bail has been set for him, authorities prevent his release on bail. Despite their dire physical condition, these two prisoners have declared that they will continue their hunger strike until they achieve results.

The Iranian Resistance calls for urgent action by the UN Human Rights Council, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, and other human rights advocacy bodies for the immediate release of ill prisoners.
