Iran Regime Deprives Ailing Political Prisoners From Medical Care

political prisoners Majid Assadi and Arash Sadeghi

The Iranian regime is preventing political prisoners Majid Assadi and Arash Sadeghi from receiving medical care in prison, according to reports smuggled from Gohardasht (Raja’i Shahr) Prison in Karaj.

Mr. Sadeghi, who has been in prison since 2016, suffers from cancer. In September 2018, after undergoing surgery, he was immediately returned to prison on the orders of the Iranian regime’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and the prosecutor’s office. Sadeghi needs to undergo several rounds of chemotherapy. But until today, the regime has not given him permission to receive medical treatment.

Mr. Sadeghi has been sentenced to a total of 19 years in prison on bogus national-security charges stemming from his human rights activism.

Also, according to physicians, political prisoner Mr. Assadi suffers from ankylosing spondylitis (AS), a rheumatism disease that affects the spine. He also has ulcers and inflammation in his vision network. His digestive problems have intensified as a result of prison authorities depriving him of medical care.

In September 2018, doctors diagnosed him with ulcers and inflammation of the intestines. But despite his critical condition, he has been deprived of access to physicians in the past year.

Mr. Assadi needs to visit a hospital outside the prison every three months to control his AS syndrome, which is a dangerous disease. But because of the obstructions caused by the prison authorities and the regime’s judiciary, he has no access to physicians and specialized care.

Mr. Assadi was sentenced to six years in prison in 2017 on the bogus charge of “assembly and collusion against national security” for peaceful human rights activities.
