Use of ‘blank’ employment contracts widespread in Iran

NCRI – The widespread abusive practice of making workers sign blank sheets of paper as their employment contract is endangering the job market in Iran, a labor official has said.

A state-run daily quoted Changiz Aslani on Thursday: “From 1995, the job security in Iran’s labor associations has come under threat due to the signing of white paper agreements, which has left workers upset and troubled.”

Most of blank paper agreements affected male workers, who relied on job security to provide for their families, Aslani said, according to Mardom-salari daily.

His criticism of the practice comes after Kolham construction company workers in the western city of Paveh staged a protest last week after being asked to sign a blank sheets.

The men – hoping to be hired to build a dam in the area – refused to sign and quit the premises in anger, it was reported on Saturday.
