‘No to Execution Tuesdays’ Marks 84th Week with 51 Prisons Joining Nationwide Campaign

The 84th week of the No to Execution Tuesdays campaign is marked by widespread resistance in Iranian prisons, with inmates from 51 facilities joining in solidarity against the regime’s escalating wave of executions. This week, Langarud Prison of Qom officially joined the campaign, underscoring the growing scope of opposition within the prison system.

The statement by the campaign comes as the Iranian regime intensifies its brutal use of executions as a tool of repression. Thirty-nine executions were recorded in the past week alone, including two women, bringing the total to 704 executions since the beginning of the Iranian year 1404 (March 21, 2025).

Families Kept in the Dark on Executed Prisoners’ Burial Sites

This week’s statement also highlighted the ongoing injustice following the cowardly execution of political prisoners Mehdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani. Nearly forty days after their deaths, their families remain unaware of the location of their burial sites. This deliberate denial of information constitutes enforced disappearance and amounts to psychological torture of their loved ones, fitting into the regime’s broader pattern of human rights abuses.

The campaign declared: “The widespread and brutal executions occurring weekly in our country are not only a flagrant breach of fundamental human rights, but also clear evidence of bloody repression and the regime’s effort to maintain power through intimidation and silencing voices calling for freedom and justice.”

Despite the regime’s tactics, the campaign emphasized that the victims of these atrocities are not lost to oblivion. Instead, their memory endures in the hearts of Iranians, serving as a beacon of hope for a future free from executions and violence.

A Growing Wave of Resistance

With the inclusion of Langarud Prison in Qom, the campaign now spans 51 prisons nationwide. The participants reaffirmed their determination to remain the voice of grieving families, prisoners, and all freedom-seeking Iranians until the abolition of the death penalty in Iran.

The campaign also extended its condolences to the family of Vali Daneshvarkar, father of political prisoner Shahrokh Daneshvarkar. Mr. Daneshvarkar, remembered as a steadfast supporter of the campaign, played an active role in public gatherings before his passing.

“This campaign sincerely extends its condolences to the respected family of Mr. Vali            Daneshvarkar-father of political prisoner Shahrokh Daneshvarkar, and one of the steadfast supporters of the campaign who played an active role in gatherings-for his passing, and to all the supporters and members of the campaign.”
