Public Hanging of Political Prisoner, Iman Sabzikar, in Shiraz

NCRI logoInternational Call To Condemn This Crime Against Humanity and Refer Iran Regime’s Human Rights Abuses to Un Security Council, and Bring Its Leaders to Justice

The clerical regime’s judiciary publicly hanged the political prisoner, Iman Sabzikar, on July 23, 2022, in the south of Shiraz to intimidate and terrorize the public and clamp down on expanding social protests. His execution is the first public execution after two years.

Shiraz’s rebellious youths had countered the security forces last February when they maliciously harassed two youths at the Bid-Zard police station. During those clashes with the State Security Force (SSF), IRGC Colonel Ali Akbar Ranjbar, the deputy chief of the SSF station who had attacked the people, was killed.

Following this incident, Iman Sabzikar, a defiant young man, was arrested by the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) and the SSF. Sabzikar was brutally tortured, and his arm, leg, jaw, and teeth, were broken in reprisal for the death of the IRGC Colonel, and he was sentenced to death.

A mullah named Mousavi, the regime’s chief prosecutor in Fars province, said of Iman Sabzikar’s execution,  “Dealing quickly with the case was placed on the agenda, and a preliminary verdict was issued based on retributive laws.”  Quoting Mousavi, the IRGC affiliated News Agency, Fars, added, “After preparation for execution of the verdict, he was executed at the place of the incident at 5:40 am”.

The Iranian Resistance strongly condemns the heinous public execution and urges the United Nations, its related bodies, and all international human rights organizations, as well as the European Union and its member countries, to immediately condemn this crime against humanity and hold the clerical regime and its judiciary accountable. This regime’s crimes, a disgrace to contemporary human society, should be referred to the United Nations Security Council, and its leaders brought to justice for four decades of crimes against humanity and genocide.
