“State Hostages Are the Weapon of This Tyranny in Power in Iran That Holds Its Own People Hostage”

Several prominent figures, such as lawyer Dominique Attias, MP André Chassaigne, and former hostage Ingrid Betancourt, emphasize that Iran is a tyrannical regime that must be confronted, as evidenced by the presence of numerous “state hostages.”

We warmly welcome the release of Olivier Grondeau on March 20, who was held in Iran under horrifying conditions. We are happy for him and his family. But true relief will only come when our other hostages, Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris, along with all other foreign nationals, are finally freed, and—above all—when a definitive end is put to this abhorrent practice.

WASHINGTON — Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), in coordination with the U.S. Department of Justice, is targeting a network of six entities and two individuals based in Iran, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the People’s Republic of China (PRC) responsible for the procurement of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) components on behalf of Iran-based Qods Aviation Industries (QAI)—a leading manufacturer for Iran’s UAV program.  This network has also facilitated procurement for other entities in Iran’s military-industrial complex, to include Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industrial Company (HESA) and Shahid Bakeri Industrial Group (SBIG).  Today’s action marks the second round of sanctions targeting Iranian weapons proliferators since the President issued National Security Presidential Memorandum 2 on February 4, 2025, ordering a campaign of maximum pressure on Iran.

New Era for Iran Is Within Reach

Last week marked the start of a new year on the Persian calendar. As Iranians throughout the world celebrate Nowruz, many are expressing confidence that it will lead to a new era for their homeland. Meanwhile, Western concerns persist over the Iranian regime’s nuclear weapons program, with President Trump setting a clear red line.

Tehran has also stepped up its terrorism in the region over the past two years but has received major backlash, further weakening the Iranian regime’s influence in the region. Tehran’s most prominent allies, namely Hassan Nasrallah of Hezbollah in Lebanon and Bashar Assad in Syria, have left the scene, displaying Tehran’s eroding influence in the region.

Iran-Born Yale Scholar Fired Over Allegations of Working with Terrorist-Tied ‘Sham Charity’

Fox-News

A Yale University Law School associate research scholar was terminated after failing to disclose information about her alleged ties to Samidoun Network, a Canada-based group designated a terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department.

Iranian-born Helyeh Doutaghi was fired Friday, three weeks after being put on administrative leave after allegations were made that she was part of the Samidoun Network, classified as “a sham charity” by the federal government for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a U.S.-designated terrorist organization.

“Over the last three weeks, Yale has repeatedly requested to meet with Ms. Doutaghi and her attorney to obtain clarifying information and resolve this matter,” Yale spokesperson Alden Ferro said in a statement provided to Fox News Digital. “Unfortunately, she has refused to meet to provide any responses to critical questions, including whether she has ever engaged in prohibited activity with organizations or individuals that were placed on the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons list (‘SDN List’).”

U.S. State Department Condemns Iranian Regime’s Terrorism and Nuclear Threats

During a press briefing on March 31, 2025, U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce reaffirmed the U.S. government’s firm stance against the Iranian regime, labeling it as a state sponsor of terrorism. She emphasized that the regime’s own Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and stated that “many regime leaders have also been designated as terrorists.”

Bruce underscored the comprehensive scope of Tehran’s destabilizing activities, including its ballistic missile program, support for terrorist groups, and repression of the Iranian people’s freedom. “Iran’s behavior across the globe threatens U.S. national interests,” she noted, highlighting that the U.S. remains committed to ending Iran’s nuclear threat.

“The President has been very clear that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. Under Donald Trump, there is not going to be a nuclear Iran,” Bruce stated. She reiterated that the U.S. is open to negotiating a deal with Tehran but warned that “if the Iranian regime does not want a deal, the President has other options, and those alternatives will be very bad for Iran.”

The State Department spokesperson further called on the Iranian regime to cease its nuclear escalations, halt its ballistic missile program, dismantle its terrorist networks, and end the IRGC’s destabilizing activities.

Iran’s Pretender-in-Exile: The Farce of Reza Pahlavi

international policy digest logo (1)

Reza Pahlavi, the 64-year-old son of the deposed Shah of Iran, has an interesting resume to demonstrate his qualifications for the job of heir to the Peacock Throne. Since his father fled Tehran as the 1979 revolution overthrew his tyrannical rule, Reza Pahlavi has lived in languid luxury. Every time the ruling autocracy of the mullahs appears to be under threat, he occasionally breaks surface to trumpet his claim to the monarchy. The fact that during repeated recent nationwide uprisings in Iran, the crowds have chanted: “Down with the dictator, be it the Shah or the Sheik,” seems to have passed him by.

U.S. Must Put Maximum Pressure on Iran As Regime Change Looms

In a series of policy statements, the U.S. government has once again underlined its commitment to “maximum pressure” on the Iranian regime. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, detailing the latest escalation in sanctions, underscored the administration’s determination to push Iran’s already faltering economy to the brink.

By throttling oil exports and crippling the production of kamikaze drones, now a cornerstone of Tehran’s regional aggression, Washington aims to deprive the regime of both revenue and reach, tightening the noose on its destabilizing ambitions.

The administration’s rhetoric signals a shift in Iran policy, but while it implements tools to force Tehran into a verifiable nuclear agreement, its true value lies elsewhere. A decisive U.S. Policy should include a declaration of solidarity with the Iranian people.

Iran’s Rebellious Rise Against the Executioner Regime

Protesters torch IRGC Basij base in Kerman | Iran protests

In the past Iranian year (March 20, 2024 – March 20, 2025), Iranian regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei showcased the precarious position of his regime on the brink of collapse by increasing executions by 42% compared to the previous year.

The regime’s leader, desperate to prevent a nationwide uprising and delay the inevitable downfall of his regime, set a new record for crime and executions in the Iranian year 1403. The number of recorded executions reached 1,153 prisoners, unprecedented in recent years. Of these, 961 executions (83% of the total) occurred during the tenure of Masoud Pezeshkian, who became president in July 2024. Given the secretive and unrecorded nature of many executions, the actual number is likely much higher.

The Iranian Regime’s Existential Crisis: The Fracturing of Its Core Support Base

For the first time in its 46-year history, the Iranian regime faces a fundamental question: Will the hardline loyalists within its security apparatus continue to defend the regime unconditionally if protests erupt again?

According to analysts, this concern has triggered panic among the regime’s ruling elite. They are acutely aware that the collapse of Syria’s regime under Bashar al-Assad was largely due to the demoralization and eventual defection of its repressive forces. The possibility of a similar scenario unfolding in Iran is a nightmare for the ruling clerics.

The Situation of Political Prisoners on Death Row in Iran – Part 6

The Iranian regime has intensified its crackdown on political dissidents, once again targeting prisoners of conscience with heavy sentences. Execution, torture, and long-term imprisonment have become systematic tools used to instill fear in society. This report examines the case of Babak Alipour, one of six political prisoners sentenced to death, and highlights international reactions to these unjust rulings.

Babak Alipour, born in 1991 in Amol, is a law graduate who was arrested for the third time in January 2024. His first arrest dates to November 2018, when he was sentenced to seven years in prison on charges of “membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and insulting the Supreme Leader.” After being released, he was rearrested in December 2021 and spent two years in Evin Prison’s Ward 4 before being released in March 2023. However, his freedom was short-lived, and in his most recent arrest, he was held in solitary confinement in Evin’s Ward 209 for four months.
