Lufthansa Suspends Tehran Flights, Middle East on Alert for Potential Iran Attacks
BERLIN/DUBAI, April 10 (Reuters) – German airline Lufthansa (LHAG.DE), opens a new tab and said on Wednesday it had suspended flights to Tehran due to the situation in the Middle East, which is on alert for possible Iranian retaliation for a suspected Israeli air strike on Iran’s embassy in Syria.
An Iranian news agency briefly stoked tensions when it published an Arabic report on social media platform X saying all airspace over Tehran had been closed for military drills. The agency then removed the report and denied it had issued such news.
Countries in the region and the United States have been on high alert and preparing for a possible attack by Iran since April 1 when Israeli warplanes were suspected of bombing the Iranian embassy compound in Syria.
How Iran’s Regime Tries to Fortify Its Rule Through Intensifying Class Disparity
Iran’s political landscape, tainted and occupied by clerics, regardless of internal or international dimensions, cannot evade the astronomical growth of class disparities. It has been emphasized consistently that class disparity is a fundamental factor that ultimately will undermine the theocratic regime of regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei. The class divide is a tool in the hands of the regime to purportedly keep the backbone of the Iranian nation bent, suppressing any intellectual, physical, or professional capacity for movement, protest, or uprising. The exacerbation of class disparity and the failure to stem the tide of embezzlement, theft, and governmental looting, coupled with poverty and destitution, lie at the heart of the regime’s ideological strategy to suppress the energies of the Iranian people. This policy, under the leadership of Khamenei, is orchestrated to “preserve the regime at any cost.”
Housing in Iran Is Becoming Increasingly Expensive and Unobtainable
When Ebrahim Raisi was appointed as the Iranian regime’s president by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in August 2021, he promised: “We will build 4 million housing units!” He also promised to control inflation, including housing inflation.
According to official statistics of the regime in July 2021, the average price per square meter of housing was 309.7 million Iranian rials. In less than three years, in February 2024, the Central Bank of the regime announced the price of each square meter of housing to be 810 million rials.
So, Raisi’s promise to control inflation seems to have resulted in a significant increase of 500 million rials in the price per square meter of housing. Currently, in the third year, there is no news of housing construction, and only one member of the Majlis (parliament) announced that “the production of 2 million units is on the agenda.” This means that there is only a mention of it on the agenda, without any concrete steps taken such as groundbreaking or actual construction.
Mohseni Ejei, Iran’s Judiciary Chief Hints at Boosting Mandatory Hijab Street Harassment
A week after Ali Khamenei’s re-emphasis on the enforcement of the compulsory hijab, the regime’s Chief Justice said that the clerical regime was not in a good situation in terms of “hijab and chastity”; a statement that according to some, could mean stricter hijab harassment by the regime’s morality police and hijab enforcers.
In a meeting with the heads of some of the state-run media, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejei said, “I still believe that by following the existing laws, the state of chastity and hijab can be improved until the relevant law is passed in this field.”
These kinds of statements are not new. On October 23, 2023, the Iranian Judiciary Chief ordered prosecutors, the police, and the Ministry of Interior to take action and not wait for the approval of the bill related to “chastity and hijab.”
Sudan’s Civil War and the Shadow of Iranian regime Drones
A year into Sudan’s brutal civil war, a senior Sudanese military source told Reuters that Iranian-made military drones have turned the tide. They claim the drones have halted the opposing forces’ advance and even allowed the army to retake territory around the capital.
According to the same report, six anonymous Iranian sources, along with local officials and diplomats, confirmed to Reuters that the Sudanese army has been using Iranian regime drones for several months.
This bloody conflict began a year ago between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a militia led by General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, the country’s former deputy leader. The presence of Iranian regime drones in Sudan has been previously reported by Bloomberg and Sudanese media.
Between Protest and War: The Iranian Regime’s Precarious Balance
Six months into the Gaza war, the Iranian regime finds itself in a new predicament. While aware of its critical internal situation and the looming threat of renewed protests, it has doubled down on its warmongering. This approach, as all signs indicate, offers only short-term benefits.
Now, faced with Israel’s recent bombing of its consulate in Syria, the regime faces a difficult choice. The attack resulted in the loss of key figures involved in its proxy wars. Responding forcefully would have significant consequences, potentially escalating into a full-blown war that would be devastating given Iran’s internal fragility. However, inaction also carries heavy burdens, leaving the regime trapped in a stalemate with crushing repercussions.
Bern, Switzerland—April 8, 2024: Freedom-loving Iranians and supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran(PMOI/MEK) organized an exhibition to support the Iranian Revolution.
MEK supporters in Bern called for the leaders of the Iranian regime, particularly Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the mass murderer Ebrahim Raisi, to be put on trial in an international court for crimes against humanity.
The Iranian community in Bern also demanded Raisi’s trial, citing his crime-filled record including the massacre of political prisoners in 1988, the increasing executions in Iran, the brutal suppression of women, the acceleration of Iran’s nuclear program, and the regime’s sponsorship of terrorism and warmongering in the region.
