International Outcry Against Iran’s Executions Mounts
Global leaders and activists unite to prevent the imminent executions of political prisoners Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani. The Iranian regime is under global scrutiny as international voices rise against the impending execution of two political prisoners, Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani. The French Committee for a Democratic Iran has issued urgent calls to halt these executions following the unsettling transfer of the prisoners from Tehran’s Evin Prison to Ghezel Hesar Prison on January 26, 2025. This relocation has left human rights advocates deeply alarmed, serving as a prevalent signal of impending execution.
Iranian Resistance Group Says Regime Developing Warheads for Missiles with 3,000 Kilometer Range
An Iranian resistance group said Friday that it has confirmed that the regime is in the process of developing nuclear warheads that are intended for solid-fuel missiles that could exceed 3,000 kilometers. The warheads are being developed at the Shahrud missile site in Iran, according to a report from the National Council of Resistance of Iran obtained by Just the News.
“This is the entity that was created to consolidate all of the activities of the Iran regime for building the bomb,” Alireza Jafarzadeh, the deputy director of the group’s U.S. office, said during a press conference.
He said that data and research that the group obtained show that there are large-scale operations and an organization at the Shahrud missile site.
Iran Is ‘Secretly Creating Nuclear Weapons with 1,800-Mile Radius That Could Reach Europe Based on North Korean Designs’
Iran has allegedly been covertly creating nuclear weapons with a 1,800-mile radius that could reach Europe based on designs created by North Korea.
The design given to the Islamic regime by the authoritarian country reveals the Middle Eastern state has been developing nuclear missiles.
The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) revealed the details of how the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is growing its warhead programme, The Telegraph reports.
They have said two sites have been disguised as communication satellite launch facilities, but are being utilised to expedite the manufacture of the missiles.
The Growing Poverty Crisis and Its Impact on Iranian Society
“The 400% Drop in Wages Over a Decade”—this is the shocking front-page headline of Iran’s state-run Mardomsalari newspaper on January 29, 2025. This headline alone paints a grim picture of the catastrophic living conditions of workers and wage earners in Iran. It means that the standard of living for workers and laborers has declined fourfold over the past 10 years. Other economic data confirm this conclusion. A decade ago, the minimum wage for workers was around 6 million rials, which was equivalent to approximately $235 at the time. Today, the minimum wage, adjusted for the current exchange rate, amounts to just $94. This decline in wages is accelerating rapidly. At the beginning of this year, the minimum wage was equivalent to $133, meaning that in just 10 months, workers’ purchasing power has dropped by 30%.
The Crisis of Workers’ Wages in Iran: A Declining Standard of Living
On Wednesday, January 29, an Iranian government agency reported a significant decline in the real value of workers’ wages, stating, “With less than 50 days remaining until the end of the Persian year 1403, the real value of wages has fallen to $86.” This marks a stark contrast to March of the previous year when, despite a nominal wage growth of over 35%, the real value stood at $119.
Currently, the base wage for workers under Iran’s labor law is approximately 7.166 million tomans per month. According to Iran Newspaper, “The fluctuation of the exchange rate over the past year has led to a sharp drop in the real value of workers’ wages.” The report compared Iran’s current wage levels to Afghanistan, where workers earn $80 per month, while regional counterparts such as Saudi Arabia ($1,065) and Oman ($844) offer significantly higher wages.
Iran’s Aging Population: A Looming Crisis
On January 28, the state-run website Eco Iran published a report titled “Iran’s Population Is Getting Older,” highlighting the significant demographic shifts in Iranian urban households over the past decade (2014–2024). The report reveals a troubling trend: the decline of the young population and the rapid aging of society, posing serious economic and social challenges. A review of official statistics underscores a clear decline in the birth rate. The share of children under one year of age has dropped from 0.6% to 0.4%, while the 1-5 age group has declined from 6.4% to 4.7%. More strikingly, the proportion of individuals aged 21-30 has plummeted from 20.2% to 12.7%—a 7.5 percentage point decrease. This decline suggests that many young Iranians are either emigrating or delaying family formation due to economic hardships.
Former Political Prisoner Arghavan Fallahi Arrested Again in Iran
February 2025 – Former political prisoner Arghavan Fallahi, released from Tehran’s Evin Prison in late 2023, has been arrested again. According to reports, the 22-year-old was detained on January 26, 2025, in Parand, a satellite city of Tehran, and transferred to an undisclosed location. No information is available regarding the reason for her arrest, her whereabouts, or her current condition. Fallahi was arrested in November 2022 alongside her father, Nasrollah Fallahi, and her brother, Ardavan Fallahi. The family was detained while traveling from Isfahan to Shiraz to visit a family friend, Parvin Mirasan. They were held for over two months in Isfahan’s detention centers, where they were subjected to interrogation and torture.
Surge in Mazut Consumption in Iran Amid Rising Exports of Clean Fuels
Official statistics in Iran, amid severe air pollution and energy shortages, indicate a surge in the export of relatively clean fuels and a sharp increase in domestic consumption of highly polluting fuel oil (“mazut”).
An official document from Iran’s Ministry of Petroleum reveals that mazut consumption in the country has surged by 52% over seven months, with a total of more than 5.5 billion liters consumed during this period.
It is not precisely clear how mazut consumption has been since October 22, 2024, but this fuel—considered the most polluting fossil fuel—is used at twice the rate in colder months due to gas shortages.
Nurse Shortage Leads to Closure of Hospital Departments in Iran
Ahmad Nejatian, the head of the Iranian regime’s Nursing Organization, warned about the “critical” nurse shortage in Iran, stating that some hospital departments have been shut down as a result.
On Tuesday, January 28, Nejatian stated that the closure of certain hospital departments due to the nursing shortage is “harming people.” He added, “Patients need services, the infrastructure and facilities are in place, but staffing remains a major issue.”
He described the nurse shortage as a nationwide issue affecting all provinces but emphasized that Tehran, due to its high concentration of hospitals and the reluctance of nurses to stay in the capital because of difficult living conditions, is facing a more severe shortage.
