Iranian Terror Attack Left Me in a Coma – But What Happened Next Was Astonishing

daily-express-logo

On a Sunday morning like any other, I was driving to the office with a colleague. We were talking casually when I asked him to turn on the radio to catch the headlines. “Eight men, including seven Iranians, arrested in two anti-terrorism operations in England,” the broadcaster announced. We looked at each other, stunned. Any anti-terror operation involving London, Swindon, Manchester, Stockport, and Rochdale should alarm every UK citizen. But for me, it struck a deeper chord. As an Iranian dissident activist, I have survived Iranian state-sponsored terror more than once.

NCRI FAC Member Details Assassination Attempts and Tehran’s Global Terror Campaign

In a televised interview with Britain’s GB News, Hossein Abedini, deputy representative of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) in the UK, shared harrowing details of multiple assassination attempts by the Iranian regime and warned of Tehran’s persistent use of terrorism to silence dissent.

“I was shot in the chest and abdomen in Turkey and left in a coma for nearly 50 days,” Abedini recounted, describing a 1990s assassination attempt that left him critically wounded. He revealed that two further attempts on his life were made while he was recovering in the hospital, under the guise of police and visitors claiming to be friends. “They came to finish me off, but I miraculously survived,” he said.

Abedini also referenced the 2018 foiled bombing plot targeting the NCRI’s annual gathering in Villepinte, Paris, which was thwarted by European security services. An Iranian diplomat was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for orchestrating the attack, and was later released in a prisoner swap with Belgium.

“The Iranian regime has been behind some 500 major terrorist operations abroad, resulting in the deaths of 300 Iranian dissidents,” Abedini stated. He emphasized that Tehran’s survival relies on two pillars: internal repression—highlighting 120,000 political executions—and international terrorism and export of extremism.

The interview highlighted ongoing concerns about the Iranian regime’s extraterritorial assassination plots and its continued targeting of dissidents and opposition figures in Europe and beyond.

Iran Issued Urgent Nuclear Warning as Bombshell New Revelations Put Major Deal at Risk

daily-express-logo

Iran has been significantly expanding its covert nuclear weapons development since 2009, it has emerged. New intelligence uncovered by Iranian opposition group NCRI reveals that the regime’s Organisation of Defensive Innovation and Research (SPND) is running a secret programme to boost nuclear warhead capability, including mounting them on ballistic missiles able to strike targets over 1,900 miles away. The revelations come as Tehran prepares for a fourth round of proposed nuclear talks with the US in Muscat next week, with experts predicting they may derail negotiations.

At the heart of this effort is the Ivanaki (Eyvanekey) facility, a sprawling 2,500-acre site in Semnan Province, northern Iran. Publicly, it is presented as a paint and chemical production site operated by Diba Energy Sina. In reality, it is used for the construction of nuclear weapon components.

WASHINGTON — Today, the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is increasing pressure on Iran’s export of oil, designating the “teapot” refinery Hebei Xinhai Chemical Group Co., Ltd. and three port terminal operators in Shandong Province for their role in purchasing or facilitating the delivery of hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of Iranian oil.  These teapot refineries, most of which are located in Shandong Province, purchase the majority of Iranian crude oil exports.  OFAC is also imposing sanctions on several companies, vessels, and captains responsible for facilitating Iranian oil shipments as part of Iran’s “shadow fleet.”  This is OFAC’s third action against a teapot refinery and its first targeting terminal operators in Shandong Province.

Iran Regime’s Death Sentences and Deprivation of Political Prisoners Met with Unbreakable Spirit of Resistance

The Iranian regime, facing a populace increasingly weary of its oppressive rule, is demonstrably intensifying its crackdown on political dissent. This escalation is starkly evident in the alarming rise of death sentences and the systematic, cruel deprivation of basic rights, including essential medical care, for political prisoners. However, far from crushing the will of those unjustly incarcerated, these brutal tactics are being met with an equally powerful and unbreakable spirit of resistance from within the regime’s own dungeons.

The regime’s judiciary has become a key instrument in this heightened repression, handing down death sentences with alarming frequency, particularly against those affiliated with the opposition. A recent and egregious example is the case of Amin Farahavar, a political prisoner and a known supporter of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

Iran’s Regime Plans ‘Step-By-Step’ Energy Price Surge to Avoid Protests and Uprisings

A street in Iran dimly lit amid electricity shortages

From May 4 to May 7, 2025, frequent and unscheduled power outages have sparked public protests in various cities, including Tehran, Pardis, Mehrshahr in Karaj, Shahr-e Rey, Baharestan, Soltanabad, Shahriar, Abadan, Behbahan, Ramhormoz, and Mahirood in South Khorasan province. In Tehran, citizens in the Ahan Bazaar (Iron Market) area, at National University, and in the city of Pardis took to the streets, chanting “Death to Khamenei” and “Death to the dictator.” Many sectors, from bakers and poultry farmers to merchants and shopkeepers, joined the protests.

Previously, former regime president Ebrahim Raisi, who had witnessed the people’s strong backlash against the regime during the gasoline price hike protests in 2019 and fearing a repeat of the uprising, had said: “We will not do anything that shocks the economy, and we will not surprise the people.” His intention was that, to cover the expenses of suppression, warmongering, and the costs of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), they would not impose the “shock” of power outages and sudden price increases. Instead, they would act gradually, step by step, slowly—in short, “incrementally”—and inflict harm deceptively.

newsmax-logo

Recently, nuclear negotiations concluded with Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister and head of the Iranian delegation, describing the talks as “serious,” though hampered by significant obstacles. He cautiously expressed hope for potential progress. But, a May 1 report in The Hill.com, notes, “The fourth round of nuclear talks between the U.S. and Iran, which were slated to take place in Rome over the weekend, have been postponed, according to Oman’s foreign minister.”

Of note, U.S. Vice President JD Vance indicated the following, at the Munich Security Conference “previewed the next round of U.S.-Iran nuclear talks on Wednesday,” claiming saying President Trump would be “open” to meeting with down with both Chinese and Russian officials, in an effort to prevent (nuclear) proliferation.

Power Outage Crisis In Iran Signals a Broader Political Meltdown

In recent days, widespread and frequent power outages, along with disruptions in water supply across various districts of Tehran Province—including Pardis, Shahr-e Rey, Baharestan, the dormitory of Allameh Tabataba’i University, Soltanabad, Shahriar, and other areas—have triggered scattered yet significant public protests. These localized demonstrations reflect the growing frustration caused by the inability of President Masoud Pezeshkian’s government to meet the population’s most basic needs, such as electricity and water.

According to a report by Bahaar News, electricity demand in Iran increased by approximately 7,000 megawatts between October 2023 and October 2024. However, production capacity only grew by 2,235 megawatts during the same period, highlighting a severe imbalance between supply and demand in this critical sector. The report further states that bridging the country’s 20,000 megawatt electricity shortfall would require major investments.
