The grassroots “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign continues to gain momentum across Iran, entering its 62nd week with coordinated hunger strikes involving political prisoners in 38 separate detention centers. Despite the Nowruz holidays and the holy month of Ramadan, the clerical regime has intensified its brutal crackdown, confirming death sentences for numerous prisoners, including political detainee Hamid Hosseinnejad Heydaranlou.

The “No to Executions Tuesdays” movement, which condemns all executions as state-sponsored murder and calls for the immediate abolition of the death penalty, reported participation from political prisoners in major facilities such as Evin, Ghezel Hesar, Greater Tehran Prison, Karaj Central Prison, and Shiraz’s Adelabad Prison, among others. The campaign’s organizers have called on the Iranian public to demonstrate in front of prisons and other public locations to demand an end to the regime’s brutal policies.

Despite heavy censorship and repression, social media posts indicate rising solidarity with the campaign, with families of death row prisoners gathering outside notorious prisons like Evin and Rasht. Activists argue that the regime’s crackdown aims to crush dissent and intimidate the public amid mounting economic hardship and political instability.

The “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign asserts that the growing resistance from within Iran’s prisons is a testament to the regime’s inability to stifle opposition. As the movement continues to expand, many observers believe the clerical dictatorship’s reliance on repression only deepens the nation’s crisis.

A translated version of the campaign’s statement follows:

Continuation of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” Campaign in its 62nd Week with Participation from 38 Different Prisons;

Supreme Court Confirms Execution Sentence for Political Prisoner Hamid Hosseinnejad Heydaranlou.

The Velayat-e Faqih regime has not halted its inhumane execution practices even during Nowruz and the holy month of Ramadan. In recent days, several prisoners have been condemned to death, becoming victims of the Iranian rulers’ insatiable appetite for executions and repression. During this period, the execution sentence for political prisoner Hamid Hosseinnejad Heydaranlou, a resident of Chaldoran who has been accused of “baghi” (rebellion against the state), was confirmed by the regime’s Supreme Court and communicated to him on March 24, 2025. Therefore, the danger of his execution is imminent, and it is imperative to be the voice of this prisoner and all others sentenced to death.

We warn about the possibility of executions being carried out after the holidays, particularly for those whose unjust sentences have been confirmed. The case of Verishe Moradi is currently with the Supreme Court. We demand the immediate annulment of Verishe Moradi’s death sentence by the Supreme Court, as this verdict is not a judicial decision but a premeditated state-sponsored murder. We express grave concern over the confirmation of her sentence and those of other prisoners and will resist it.

The “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign, while expressing its abhorrence for brutal executions and anti-human death sentences regardless of the alleged crimes, calls for the abolition of the death penalty in Iran.

As witnessed in previous weeks, groups of families of death row prisoners have gathered in front of Lakan Prison in Rasht, Evin Prison, Saqqez Prison, and in the city of Songhor. In solidarity with these families, we call on all freedom-loving people and the families of prisoners sentenced to death to hold protest gatherings in public places, outside prisons, or any other location, demanding the abolition of the inhumane death penalty.

This is the most natural, legitimate, and rational right of families, every free individual, and the general public to protest against these cruel death sentences.
