The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign enters its 56th week, with hunger strikes spreading to 36 prisons, including Dieselabad Prison in Kermanshah. Inmates and activists continue to protest against executions, which have surged, with at least 62 carried out in February alone.
The movement also condemns the suspicious death of Tehran University student Amir Mohammad Khaleghi and the government’s violent crackdown on protests, including in Dehdasht. Additionally, activists highlight the neglect of children with cancer and disabilities, whose families cannot afford treatment due to worsening economic conditions.
Amid growing public support, including from the Iranian Writers’ Association and families of death row inmates, organizers call for more demonstrations outside prisons.

Defending the “Right to Life”: From Death Row Inmates to Children with Cancer, We Consider It Our Duty
As the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign enters its 56th week, a group of inmates from Dieselabad Prison in Kermanshah, as the 36th prison to join, announced in a letter that they would participate in the campaign starting from February 19 and will go on a hunger strike in protest against the medieval practice of execution.
The members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign extend their condolences to the family, students, and people of Iran over the tragic and suspicious death of Amir Mohammad Khaleghi, a student at the University of Tehran, who was murdered in a brutal and mysterious manner. The campaign holds the government responsible for this incident and, while supporting the rightful protests of the students at this university, calls on students from other universities to stand in solidarity with those in Tehran.

The execution-driven state continues its relentless machine of repression and killings. Since January 20, at least 62 individuals have been executed, including two women. Last week, the death sentence of political prisoner Sharifeh Mohammadi, which had previously been overturned by the Supreme Court, was reinstated by the Revolutionary Court of Rasht.
In protest against this ruling and other death sentences, inmates convicted of non-political crimes in Lakan Prison have declared that they will join the hunger strike alongside male and female political prisoners in solidarity with the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign this week.
Meanwhile, we witnessed the violent suppression of public protests in the city of Dehdasht. The regime, in addition to mass arrests of young protesters, has been using live ammunition to kill civilians in an attempt to instill fear. However, society remains on the verge of another uprising against tyranny.
A review of the latest news shows that the crimes of the ruling clerical regime are not limited to suppression, imprisonment, execution, and the killing of defenseless protesters on the streets. This systematic “denial of life” extends even to children suffering from cancer and other critical illnesses. Due to poverty and financial incapacity, many families are forced to abandon their children’s treatment, helplessly witnessing their slow death. (Ettelaat Newspaper, February 14)
The state even refuses to provide the minimum necessary support for children with disabilities. From the perspective of the campaign, attacking people’s livelihoods and health—especially that of children—is a blatant crime.

The campaign strongly condemns these crimes and inhumane acts and considers the defense of the right to life—from those sentenced to death to children with critical illnesses and disabilities—its fundamental duty.
Last week, we witnessed gatherings of families of death row prisoners in front of Evin and Saqqez prisons, with significant public support. Furthermore, the Iranian Writers’ Association, continuing the support of civil and professional organizations, issued a statement backing the campaign and calling for an end to these brutal executions.
We welcome and appreciate these expressions of solidarity and call for the expansion of protests in front of prisons.
