Khamenei’s mouthpiece bemoans increasing influence of PMOI

NY-1NCRI – Two days after a major rally against Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in New York, a state-run newspaper considered to be the mouthpiece of the Iranian regime’s Supreme Leader, published an analysis reacting to the protest and admitting to the main opposition’s political advancements.

On Saturday, the daily Kayhan wrote, “The biggest rally [against Ahmadinejad] was carried out by the People’s Mojahedin Organization or hypocrites, in which a number of personalities like John Bolton took part.”

On Thursday, supporters of the main opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and Iranian-Americans staged a large protest condemning the presence of the Iranian regime’s president at the United Nations. Speakers included former US ambassador to the UN, John Bolton, former New York City mayor and 2008 presidential contender, Rudy Giuliani, and the President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi.

In its analysis about the rally, Kayhan scoffed the mullahs’ defeated factions for failing to stage their own protests against Ahmadinejad in New York.

“Last year, Ahmadinejad’s visit to the UN was met with protests by the Greens, monarchists and the PMOI. But, this year was different. Only the PMOI began preparing for the rally several months ahead, advertising for it and finally carrying it out.”

Kayhan added, “Admitting to this fact does not amount to crediting the organization with anything. Rather, it is meant to say that this year the Greens or other groups did not stage any rallies or protests in New York. The discussions were heated last year, but now it seems the fever among exiled movements has subsided and they have been disheartened.”

According to observers, such statements by Ali Khamenei’s mouthpiece are a sign that the regime, which is facing increasing international isolation, is fully aware of and weary over the growth of the main opposition PMOI.
