In a historic show of support, over 250 members of the UK Parliament, spanning all major parties, have endorsed a powerful statement urging the UK Government to take decisive action against Iran’s systematic use of the death penalty. This initiative aligns the new UK Parliament with a longstanding tradition of championing Iran’s freedom and human rights cause.
The statement supports Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan for Iran’s democratic future, which emphasizes abolishing the death penalty, ensuring gender equality, and safeguarding human rights. The signatories strongly condemn the Iranian regime’s politically motivated executions, which they describe as a tool of repression aimed at silencing dissent and deterring uprisings.
“This cross-party support demonstrates that the UK Parliament stands united with the Iranian people in their fight for justice, freedom, and an end to repression,” said Bob Blackman CBE MP, President of the International Committee of Parliamentarians for a Democratic Iran (ICPDI). He called on the UK Government to impose concrete sanctions, take legal measures, and establish international mechanisms to hold the regime accountable.

The statement also highlights the regime’s long history of atrocities, citing UN-documented crimes against humanity and the recent surge in executions under Iran’s new president. The signatories criticize the international community for its failure to hold the regime accountable, which they argue has emboldened Tehran to escalate its crackdowns with impunity.
Prof. Lord Alton of Liverpool, Co-president of the British Committee for Iran Freedom, emphasized the urgency of the matter: “The time to act is now to prevent further atrocities and support the Iranian people’s fight for justice and freedom. The UK must lead an international coalition to end this alarming trend by referring the regime to the UN Security Council and facilitating the prosecution of its leaders.”

Baroness O’Loan DBE underscored the regime’s threats beyond Iran’s borders, stating, “As Iran’s regime exports its repression to the UK, threatening our democracy and intimidating pro-democracy Iranian dissidents, our Government must stand with the regime’s primary victims—the Iranian people—and support their justice-seeking campaign.”
The initiative further amplifies calls for the UK to recognize Maryam Rajavi’s democratic platform as a viable solution to abolish executions and foster a future rooted in human rights and equality in Iran.
This cross-party commitment places the UK Parliament at the forefront of international efforts to end Iran’s human rights abuses, reinforcing its legacy of supporting the global fight for freedom and justice.
