This year the renowned Iranian artist Reza Olia, was awarded the gold medal for his paintings and bronze sculptures displaying the Iranian women’s struggles for freedom and against the religious dictators ruling Iran.

After receiving a decoration and a gold medal at the House of Artists Mr. Reza Olia in a short speech stated:

First of all, I would like to thank the great artists who have helped me in this path over the past years, as well as the artist’s house and its president Dr. Victorio Barjavani. Since when I was a young student at the School of the Dramatic Arts in Rome, I was trying to convey the sufferings of my people and their desire for freedom to the world through my art works.

In my country Iran, unfortunately, there is an anti-art and anti-cultural regime ruling, and during these years, by eliminating and destroying assets of Iranian art and culture, has been hindering the progress in my country.

As you know, many of my works of art are dedicated to the people of my homeland. And I have tried to highlight the pleas for peace and freedom, by displaying the suffering and sacrifices that have been made over these years.

Fortunately, Italy with its rich culture and outstanding artists throughout the centuries, has also provided me the best ground for conveying the pleas of my people.

Mr. President, definitely this prize encourages me to continue pursuing my artistic and social work, especially in presenting my country’s culture, which for years has been devastated by an anti-culture regime.

At the end, I want to grant this honorable tablet and gold medal to the political prisoners of my country Iran.
