The Presidency Of The Mullahs’ Anti-Labor Regime At The International Labor Organization’s Board Meeting Is Strongly Condemned

The Iranian Resistance strongly condemns the presidency of the ambassador of the religious fascism ruling Iran at the 350th International Labor Organization Board Meeting, which will continue until March 14, 2024.

The mullahs’ presidency of an ILO-affiliated agency comes at the regime is one of the worst violators of workers’ rights in the world today. The main employers in Iran are the Revolutionary Guards and Khamenei’s affiliated institutions, which exploit workers in the most brutal manner with their anti-labor and anti-popular policies and with the aim of making billion-dollar profits.

The mullahs’ regime prevents workers from organizing trade unions and violently suppresses any protest by workers for their rights. According to state media, the minimum wage for workers is less than one-third of the poverty line determined by the regime. Meanwhile, according to government agencies, 13.5 million of the 23 million employed population have “informal jobs” and their wages are not even on par with the enacted minimum wage. The wages of female workers are much lower than this minimum. Under the mullahs’ regime, millions of innocent children and young people have been forced into labor, and in fact, forced labor.

According to the regime’s official sources, 60% of workers lack social insurance and in 2022 alone, some 800 workers died in work-related accidents.

The mullahs’ regime does not pay even workers’ meager salaries. In one instance, the state-run ILNA news agency reported on March 12 that the salaries of Tabriz Combine Manufacturing workers had been deferred for six months.

The presidency of the representative of such a regime at the ILO’s board of directors amounts to legitimizing the pillage and suppression of workers by the ruling theocracy and allows the IRGC to suppress and plunder more workers and wage earners. It is to award an anti-labor regime that violates international laws and standards in support of workers’ rights.
