Iran: Coronavirus Update, Over 87,300 Deaths, August 12, 2020, 6:00 PM CEST

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI-MEK) announced this afternoon, August 12, 2020, that Coronavirus has taken the lives of more than 87,300 in 373 cities across Iran. The death toll in various provinces include: 21,740 in Tehran, 6388 in Khorasan Razavi, 6042 in Khuzestan, 4099 in Mazandaran, 3828 in Isfahan, 3677 in Gilan, 2500 in East Azerbaijan, 1090 in Semnan, 1050 in Bushehr, 1043 in Markazi (Central), 1025 in Ardabil, 990 in Yazd, 821 in Zanjan, 736 Qazvin, 690 in Ilam, 577 in Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari, 485 in Kohgiluyeh & Boyer Ahmed, and 444 in South Khorasan. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

 

“Nitrate of dissent” may explode at any moment in Iran, state media warn

The state-run Asre Iran daily published a piece on Tuesday titled “Nitrate of Dissent—We should be careful of Iran becoming the next Beirut,” warning about the country’s powder keg society and comparing the status quo in Iran to that of Beirut and all of Lebanon. Dissent among the Iranian people is becoming very similar to the ammonium nitrate stockpiled in Beirut’s port and may explode at any moment, the piece explains.

Recent public statements from Iranian regime’s officials have been unusually forthright about threats to their hold on power. At Friday prayer gatherings in major cities at the end of July, local representatives of regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei took special aim at the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI / MEK), warning the regime’s elements to be on guard against the further actions of the MEK “Resistance Units”. But in so doing, they also showed their fear of the regime’s viable alternative.

Iran: Coronavirus Death Toll in 373 Cities Exceeds 86,700

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced this afternoon, on August 11, 2020, that the Coronavirus fatalities in 373 cities across Iran had passed more than 86,700. The number of victims in Khuzestan is 5,987, Qom 4,370, Mazandaran 4,074, Lorestan 3,527, Sistan and Baluchestan 2,721, Fars 2,425, Golestan 2,397, Kermanshah 2,110, Kerman 1,323, North Khorasan 1,317, and Hormozgan 1,125.

NCRI President-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi:

Many prisoners including political prisoners of Evin Prison, Great Tehran Penitentiary, the Central Prison of Urmia, among others, have contracted the coronavirus and so, thousands of prisoners in Iran are vulnerable to the disease.

The clerical regime is unable to provide and guarantee the necessary hygienic restrictions inside its prisons. The UN needs to take urgent action to compel the Iranian regime to stop this catastrophe by temporarily releasing all prisoners, including the political prisoners.

New protest reports from various parts of Iran

People from different parts of Iran’s society have been holding protests demanding their delayed paychecks and pensions. On Tuesday, the nationwide protest by workers in Iran’s oil, natural gas and petrochemical industries, and power plants continued for the eleventh consecutive day. According to reports, the Bidkhoon refinery and Iran Ring of Industry Company have been completely shut down. The Tanesh Gostar Company is also on strike. Workers of the Omran Sanat, Farzin Moradi, Rugby Pouya, Gil Sanat and Kayhan Pars companies are also on strike.

WHAT ARE THE IRAN PROTESTS OF 2019?

Wednesday, August 12, 2020, marks the 270th day since the beginning of the nationwide Iran protests.

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) has identified 755 of the more than 1500 protesters killed by the regime so far.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) has called on the United Nations to urgently send an international fact-finding mission to Iranian prisons to meet with the detainees.
