Former NATO Supreme Allied Commander General Wesley Clark warned on Saturday, April 5, that the Iranian regime views obtaining a nuclear bomb as its only means of survival. Speaking in an interview with NewsNation, Gen. Clark stated that the regime in Tehran has come to the conclusion that acquiring nuclear weapons is essential to its continued existence.

“I think they understand that the only way they’ll be safe is to have a nuclear weapon. I think they’re working on it right now. I think they’ll have it soon,” Clark said, suggesting that Tehran’s nuclear ambitions are progressing rapidly. He speculated that the regime could obtain a nuclear weapon in as little as six weeks to six months.

Gen. Clark noted that the United States has deployed a second aircraft carrier to the region and reinforced forces, implying that military action could be imminent if Tehran continues its nuclear pursuits. He also mentioned the involvement of A-10 aircraft and the possibility of air strikes, while acknowledging that a complete operation might require boots on the ground to secure nuclear materials or facilities.

“You’d be exploiting the information you got out of bombing, and you’d be, in this case of Iran, seizing nuclear materials or scientists or trying to ensure that you got it all,” Clark added, hinting at the necessity of comprehensive measures beyond air strikes.

His remarks highlight mounting concerns over the Iranian regime’s nuclear ambitions, which Western officials believe are aimed at consolidating its grip on power domestically while projecting military strength abroad. As the regime faces growing domestic unrest and international isolation, Clark’s statements suggest that Tehran is betting on nuclear deterrence as a means to secure its hold over the country.

The Iranian regime has repeatedly stalled negotiations, refused full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and continued to advance its nuclear weapons program under the guise of peaceful development.

Gen. Clark’s comments also echo growing concerns over Tehran’s regional behavior and its potential to destabilize neighboring countries through its proxy forces and aggressive rhetoric.
