The Nouveaux Droits de l’Homme (NDH) has issued a press release condemning in the strongest terms the death sentences recently handed down by the Iranian regime against six political prisoners: Abolhassan Montazer, Pouya Ghobadi, Vahid Bani-Amirian, Babak Alipour, Ali Akbar Daneshvarkar, and Mohammad Taghavi. NDH denounced the sentences as a result of interrogations under torture and unjust trials, describing them as a manifestation of the inhumanity of a regime desperately clinging to power through terror.
“These individuals, accused of ‘belonging to the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran’ and other baseless charges, have only defended ideals of freedom and justice in the face of a repressive dictatorship,” the statement read. NDH emphasized that the sentencing, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, reflects a judicial system manipulated as an instrument of oppression.
Calling for urgent international intervention, NDH appealed to the United Nations Human Rights Council, the European Union, and its member states to act swiftly to save these lives. “It is imperative to condemn these crimes and support the Iranian people’s struggle against a regime that violates fundamental human rights,” NDH declared.
The organization reaffirmed its unwavering solidarity with Iran’s political prisoners and those striving for genuine democracy, concluding, “Repression will not extinguish the thirst for freedom of a brave people.”
