Bob Blackman, Member of Parliament for Harrow East, the United Kingdom, has issued an urgent call for immediate international intervention to save six Iranian political prisoners who have been sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary. The prisoners, accused of supporting the main Iranian opposition group, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), were reportedly subjected to months of torture and denied due process.
The six individuals facing execution are:
- Abolhassan Montazer (65): Architect and political activist.
- Ali Akbar Daneshvarkar (57): Civil engineer.
- Mohammad Taghavi (58): Former political prisoner from the 1980s and 1990s.
- Babak Alipour (33): Law graduate.
- Pouya Ghobadi (32): Electrical engineer.
- Vahid Bani-Amrian (32): Management graduate.
“These sentences underscore the Iranian regime’s systemic repression and blatant disregard for the rights and lives of its citizens,” Blackman stated. He highlighted the regime’s escalating crackdown on dissidents under Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, noting that executions are being used as a tool to silence resistance.
Blackman urged the UK government, the European Union, and the international community to act swiftly. “The United Nations Security Council, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and other international bodies must take immediate steps to prevent these executions,” he said. He also called for increased diplomatic pressure to halt the executions and secure the release of all political prisoners in Iran.
“The persecution of political prisoners cannot be ignored,” Blackman concluded. “A resolute global response is essential to hold the Iranian regime accountable and ensure justice for those imprisoned for their beliefs and activism.”
