On Saturday, December 6, 2025, the Iranian regime’s judiciary notified political prisoner Karim Khojasteh, held at Lakan Prison in Rasht, of his death sentence. His sham trial was held on September 17, 2025, presided over by judge Ahmad Darvish Goftar, but the verdict was not delivered until this past Saturday.

Karim Khojasteh, 62, a former political prisoner from the 1980s and an industrial machinery engineer from Anzali, was arrested on March 13, 2025, at his workshop on the Anzali-Khomam road and subsequently transferred to Lakan Prison in Rasht. He was tried on the charge of ‘Baqi’ (armed rebellion) for his support for the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

The Iranian Resistance urges the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN Human Rights Council, the Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Iran, and other relevant human rights bodies to intervene urgently to rescind the death sentence of Karim Khojasteh and save the lives of other political prisoners on death row.
