The regime’s judiciary sentenced Zeynab Hazbapour (Hazbeh), an Arab compatriot, to 15 years in prison at the so-called Revolutionary Court in Ahvaz on the charge of ‘membership in rebel groups.’ On December 11, she was transferred to the women’s ward of Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz.
Zeynab’s husband, political prisoner Masoud Jamei, who was arrested in August 2023, has been given two death sentences and an additional year in prison on the charge of ‘membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).’
In a related development, on December 9, Davoud and Saman Hormatnejad were transferred to Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz after being sentenced to 15 and 12 years in prison, respectively. They had been tried in a joint case on July 12 alongside political prisoners Farshad Etemadifar, Masoud Jamei, and Alireza Mardasi, who were all sentenced to death. The charges included ‘Moharebeh’ (waging war against God) and ‘membership in the PMOI.’
The Iranian Resistance once again calls on the United Nations, its relevant bodies, and all advocates for human and women’s rights to take urgent action to secure the release of political prisoners, especially female prisoners, and to send an international fact-finding mission to visit Iran’s prisons.
