The henchmen of the mullahs’ regime have turned Ward 7 of Evin Prison into a living hell for political prisoners by depriving them of cooling devices, even in temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. The prisoners in this ward are denied basic living and sanitary facilities, amid rampant insect infestations. Furthermore, to exert maximum pressure on political prisoners, authorities are holding them alongside common criminals.
In another instance, Hojjat Alizadegan, a political prisoner supporting the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) who was exiled from Yazd Prison to Saravan Prison, is being subjected to double pressure. Prison henchmen have placed him among common criminals and refuse to hand over his medications and personal belongings. Mr. Alizadegan has been sentenced to five years of imprisonment and exile.
In a criminal act, the mullahs’ intelligence service arrested Atefeh Hasani, the sister of Mohammad Hasani, a political prisoner supporting the PMOI, and has conditioned her release on her brother backing down from his political stances. Ms. Hasani is currently imprisoned in Fardis Prison in Karaj.
In another repressive move, the father of the martyred rebellious youth Abbas Akbari Faizabadi has been arrested and sentenced to three years in prison for seeking justice for his son. He is being detained in Naeen Prison. Abbas was executed on May 25 after being labeled ‘one of the armed leaders’ of the uprising in Naeen and charged with ‘moharebeh’ (enmity against God) and ‘attacking the governorate and security centers’ during the uprising.
The Iranian Resistance once again calls on the UN Human Rights Council, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, and all international human rights organizations to immediately condemn the brutal pressure against political prisoners and re-emphasizes the urgent necessity for an international fact-finding mission to visit the mullahs’ prisons.
