- The Jahan-e-Sanat daily was shut down after quoting Dr. Mahboubfar, a member of the National Coronavirus Combat Taskforce (NCCT), as saying that the number of patients and deaths is 20 times higher than the figures announced by the Health Ministry.
- Seyed Moayed Alavian, former Deputy Health Minister: We are responsible for every single death. Why do we lie to people? They want honesty and transparency.
- Iraj Harirchi, regime’s Deputy Health Minister: Prescribing drugs costing 10 and 50 million [tomans], makes the poor envy as they cannot afford it. This will turn into pent-up anger. It will result in protests, and there is a cost associated with that.
- State-daily, Setareh Sobh: In case of holding the entrance exam and Muharram ceremonies, we should be prepared to face the third wave of the Coronavirus. While many hospitals are full to capacity and cannot accept Coronavirus patients, the Health Ministry is speaking of a decrease in statistics! What are we trying to achieve by playing with the figures?
The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on August 10, 2020, that the Coronavirus fatalities in 373 cities across Iran had reached 86,200. The number of victims in Tehran is 21,250, Khorasan Razavi 6,343, Isfahan 3,793, Gilan 3,657, Alborz 2,590, West Azerbaijan 2,515, Fars 2,400, Golestan 2,367, Hamedan 2,214, Kerman 1,303, Hormozgan 1,095, Semnan 1,080, Central Province 1,028, Ardabil 1,010, Qazvin 710, and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad 478.
After quoting Dr. Mohammad-Reza Mahboubfar, a member of the NCCT, as saying that the Coronavirus death toll was 20 times higher than the figure announced by the Health Ministry, the state-run Jahan-e-Sanat daily was shut down by the “Press Supervisory Board.” This is while, the state-run Vatan-e Emruz daily had also quoted Mahboubfar, as saying, on April 28, 2020, “The current statistics of Coronavirus are 20 times higher than what is announced by the Health Ministry, and this has caused citizens not to take this deadly disease seriously.”
Referring to Rouhani’s lies, Seyed Moayed Alavian, a faculty member at Baqiyatallah Medical University and a former Deputy Health Minister, told the state TV, health network, yesterday, “If we make wrong decisions … we are responsible for every death … Instead of trying to impress the world and offer a raw model, we must use their experiences. One of our constraints is diagnostic testing. We are short of testing kits. Was it not said that we exported our kits to Turkey and Germany? Phrases like, ‘we are not even one step behind the world in producing the Coronavirus vaccine’ are false. We should not lie to people. Twelve countries have tested [the vaccine] on humans. In the United States, now 30,000 people have been vaccinated? Do you agree that human vaccines have been tested in the UK, in Germany, in the countries south of the Persian Gulf, and in Turkey? Have we had human testing in phases 1, 2, and 3 in Iran? Why do we lie to people that ‘we are not even one step behind the world?’ People want honesty. They want transparency.”
