Iran: Workers under growing economic pressure

child labor in IranNCRI – In 27 years of clerical rule in Iran the minimum wage for workers has dropped by half. The minimum monthly pay for workers has gone down to about 135 USD, according to an expert on labor affairs in Iran quoted by the state-run labor news agency, INLA.

The clerical regime’s expert admitted that wages under different governments have steadily dropped over the years and at the same time payments for education and welfare have been eliminated making life even more difficult for the workers.

The above situation has made workers to take up more than one job and to meet daily expenses every member of family has to go to work. In these circumstances increasing number of children are forced to work for living.

In addition to these pressures, government refuses to make regular payments to the workers and the country has been the scene of widespread protests in the recent years.
