Debate on Banning Iran’s Revolutionary Guard in Germany

On Thursday, February 26, 2026, the Bundestag will hold its first reading of a motion submitted by the AfD parliamentary group titled “Ban on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran in Germany” (21/4279). Following a 20-minute debate, the motion is to be referred to the relevant committees for further deliberation. The lead committee will be the Committee on Internal Affairs.

The AfD parliamentary group is advocating for a ban on Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Germany. In their motion, the lawmakers describe the Revolutionary Guards as a central component of Iran’s authoritarian-theocratic Sharia system and accuse them of involvement in the violent suppression of demonstrations, the systematic restriction of human rights, and the persecution of political opponents.

Among other measures, the federal government is called upon to examine and, if appropriate, impose a ban on the Revolutionary Guards under German association and criminal law. In addition, the activities of the Revolutionary Guards in Germany should be prevented, “including a comprehensive prohibition of activities, entry bans and financial sanctions, and the full use of legal instruments under association, tax, and residence law.”

Iranian Students Mark Fifth Day of Uprising, Vow to Avenge January Martyrs

Tehran University, February 22, 2026 — “The blood that is shed cannot be washed away,” protesters chant

On February 25, 2026, a relentless wave of anti-regime protests swept through Iranian universities for the fifth consecutive day. Across the country, students boycotted classes, transforming their campuses into central hubs of resistance against the ruling theocracy. This sustained student uprising is a direct continuation of the massive nationwide protests that erupted in late December 2025. During the January demonstrations, the clerical establishment, unable to contain the expanding geographic and social scope of the movement, resorted to systemic slaughter, murdering thousands of civilians. Yet, the persistence of the university protests demonstrates that state violence has failed to pacify the Iranian public.

In the aftermath of the January 8–9, 2026 crackdown on nationwide protests in Iran, images from Alghadir Hospital began circulating online: bodies wrapped in blankets, lined up in corridors and makeshift spaces. The hospital had been overwhelmed by a sudden surge of casualties after thousands were killed during two of the deadliest days of unrest in recent Iranian history. What happened inside Alghadir was not an isolated administrative failure. It was the medical frontline of a political crisis.

US Forces Seize Third Sanctioned Oil Tanker in Indian Ocean, Pentagon Says

WASHINGTON, Feb 24 (Reuters) – U.S. military forces seized a sanctioned oil tanker in the Indian Ocean after tracking it from Caribbean waters, the Pentagon said on Tuesday, adding that it was the third such interdiction in that region.

After capturing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in a military raid last month in Caracas, Washington has escalated its blockade on vessels that are under sanctions and going to and from the South American country, a member of the OPEC oil producers’ group.

In a post on X, the U.S. Department of Defense said its forces boarded the Bertha overnight. It accused the crude oil tanker of seeking to defy Iran-related sanctions.

Bread, Truth, and Fear: How Economic Collapse and January’s Wounds Expose Iran’s Deepening Crisis

Tehran, February 23, 2026 — Alzahra University students gather in large numbers to commemorate the martyrs of the January uprising

Iran’s crisis is no longer confined to the streets. It is visible in the price of bread, in empty Ramadan tables, and in the uneasy tone of the regime’s own media. When newspapers that operate within the system begin issuing warnings about “dangerous consequences,” the signal is unmistakable: the Iranian regime is navigating a period of acute vulnerability. The debate over bread prices illustrates how combustible the situation has become. Shargh cautions bluntly that in conditions where inflation remains uncontrolled, “any shock measure of any kind can be dangerous.” The warning is not abstract. The paper describes a society in which “many people can no longer afford meat; chicken and eggs are also difficult to obtain, and the only item left on the table is bread.” If that final pillar of subsistence faces a price shock, it writes, “practically the last livelihood support of the lower deciles will be damaged, and such an action is not recommended.”
