Iran Uprising at a Glance – Day 68

Based partially on reporting by PMOI (MEK) Network in Iran

Tuesday, November 22, 2022 – 7 PM CET

  • Days: 68
  • Protests: 243 cities
  • Fatalities: 625 estimated deaths, 503 identified by MEK
  • Detentions: 30,000+

The nationwide uprising in Iran is entering a new phase as the regime has been launching lethal crackdowns in Kurdish cities and resorting to severe internet disruptions to cloak its crimes. Monday was a day of horrific atrocities by the IRGC and other security forces opening fire with heavy, high-caliber machine guns against defenseless people in the cities of Javanrud and Piranshahr leaving dozens killed and injured. There are also initial reports from Kurdish media sites that the IRGC has also resorted to using a nerve agent causing vomiting, skin rashes, and severe coughing in the Kurdish regions.

Regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei ordered military and security units to launch horrific killing sprees in the past two-and-a-half months, and now by dispatching helicopters, armored vehicles, and heavy weaponry into Iranian Kurdistan to quell the locals’ relentless protests. The regime’s forces were seen shooting directly at locals, and activists reported that security units were firing live bullets and tear gas into people’s homes. There are also reports of security units raiding people’s homes in the city of Piranshahr on Monday night.

Netblocks, the UK-based internet observatory organization tracking network disruptions and shutdowns across the globe, reported on Monday that Iran was experiencing heavy internet disruptions. “Network traffic data show a major disruption to internet service in Iran as mobile internet is cut off for many users,” the organization tweeted.

Despite severe measures in universities and threats to prohibit travel abroad for protesting students, Iran’s faculty and students united to protest against the regime today in numerous campuses and cities across the country. Primary and high school students also joined in today as well to chant the now-usual refrain of “Death to Khamenei” in many cities. Here are some cases in point: Tehran with Sharif University, Amir Kabir University, University of Arts, Mashhad, Ravansar, Oshnavieh, Bukan, Kamyaran, Bsneh, Islamshahr, Masjid Soleiman, Kangan, Bushehr, Shahreza, Javanrud, Semirom, Sanandaj, Babol, Sari, Tabriz, Karaj, and Kermanshah, with chants of “martyrs do not die” and “death to the dictator.”

Strikes by truck drivers and merchants in Bazaars in Tehran, Rasht, Baneh, Oshnavieh, Sanandaj, Marivan, Shahreza, Ravansar, Javanrud, Bukan, Mashhad, and Semirom. Many drivers were chanting “Death to the Dictator,” and “No fear, we are all together.” Workers of the 11th refinery in the South Pars complex in the oil and gas industry also went on strike.

Mourning ceremonies for protesters killed by the regime also continued in Qazvin and Mahabad.

Reports of protests are being received now from various districts of Tehran, including Moshiriyeh.
