Latest Updates on Iran Uprising on Saturday

The opposition’s show of strength Saturday with the slogan of “Death to Khamenei” was followed by more protests Sunday with Tehran and Kurdistan province taking center stage. Killings by regime security forces in Sanandaj on Saturday, including the shooting of an unarmed commuter in his car, sparked intense protests that were met with a full-scale military response by the IRGC with gunfire ringing out in Sanandaj, Mahabad, and other Kurdish cities throughout Sunday night. Reports spreading on social media tell of an undetermined number of people killed and wounded among the protesters.

This morning, oil industry workers at the Asaluyeh Petrochemical Complex stopped work and joined the protests with chants of “Death to Dictator” and “Death to Khamenei.” Workers at the Bushehr Petrochemical plant also went on strike chanting “Death to Khamenei”.

In a show of desperation, the publisher of the regime’s Hamshahri newspaper, Mohsen Mahdian, called on the government to actively block the Internet in a way that VPNs would not work. The current Internet blackout in Iran, geared to shut down the free flow of information and dissent, is costing Iranian SME’s billions of dollars in commerce.

The regime is taking heavy losses in its confrontation with Iranian society as the people out on the streets are fighting back. Twitter posts show security forces using violence to clear sidewalks with outraged pedestrians shouting, “this is our land, and you want us to leave?” The PMOI website has compiled data sourced from the regime’s own media that tells of at least 24 IRGC and Basij and SSF forces killed in confrontations with the protesters.

A 30-year-old Iranian shop owner, Mohsen Mousavi, was killed by Khamenei’s repressive forces on Saturday, October 8, in Tehran’s bazaar area due to severe baton blows to his head in front of his shop.

Regime officials are expressing heightened alarm at the role the MEK has played in giving direction to the nationwide uprising. A senior regime figure and a member of the Expediency Council Gholam Reza Mesbahi Moghaddam told Tasnim news agency, “Some have been deceived by the enemies, including the Hypocrites (MEK), like in all the past seditions. Behind all this is the desire to overthrow the system by the Hypocrites (MEK) and America.”

World Day Against Death Penalty, the pattern of arbitrary killings in Iran. The arbitrary murder of Daryoush Alizadeh on October 8, 2022, in the city of Sanandaj was shocking in the sense that he was honking his car’s horn in support of protesters. Then all of a sudden, security forces shot him in the head. In a similar incident in Mashhad, a young woman lost her life after she was shot in the neck by the state security forces.
