Maryam Rajavi Unites International Voices Against the Death Penalty
Lawmakers, human rights defenders, and international dignitaries from across Europe and beyond gathered at Church House Westminster to mark the World Day Against the Death Penalty. Speakers at the conference included a coalition of parliamentarians, human rights activists, and former political prisoners. Among them were John Bercow, longtime Speaker of the UK House of Commons; Theresa Villiers, former UK Cabinet Minister; Baroness O’Loan; and Ingrid Betancourt, former Colombian presidential candidate and hostage survivor.
The conference brought together voices calling for an immediate end to the record number of executions in Iran, accountability for past atrocities, and recognition of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and its President-elect Maryam Rajavi as the only viable democratic alternative to the ruling theocracy.

Iran: A Massacre of Prisoners Announced in Advance
So far in 2025, 1,226 people have been executed in Iran—roughly two and a half times as many as during the same period last year. Since the regime’s recent regional setbacks, particularly following the twelve-day war between Israel and Iran, the wave of executions has escalated to an unprecedented level. In the shadow of the news dominated by Gaza and Ukraine, this quieter mass killing is taking place largely unnoticed. On the occasion of October 10, the World Day Against the Death Penalty, the German Solidarity Committee for a Free Iran (DSFI) issued an open letter, which hpd publishes here in full.
On this World Day Against the Death Penalty, we, the undersigned, make an urgent appeal to the international public: 17 political prisoners in Iran are facing imminent execution, while 1,200 people have already been executed this year alone. Seventeen of those under immediate threat are accused of membership in the opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

The Gendered Dimensions of the Water Crisis in Iran: Impacts on Women’s Health, Livelihoods, and Security
While at first the problem seemed to be the result of drought and declining rainfall, its true causes ran much deeper: entrenched corruption and mismanagement at the heart of the ruling establishment. Until these systemic roots are addressed and removed, Iran’s present — and its future — will only become more precarious.
A significant number of researchers and international observers emphasize that 70 to 80 percent of the current crisis stems from mismanagement, unsustainable policies, lack of transparency, and corruption. As one report notes, “Iran’s water crisis is not a crisis of resources; it is a crisis of decisions—decisions that have made the land thirstier and the future darker. Maryam Akbari Monfared: Authorities Prevent Her Transfer from Qarchak Prison
On the evening of October 9, 2025, dozens of female political prisoners were transferred from Qarchak Prison in Varamin to Evin Prison. Yet Maryam Akbari Monfared, one of Iran’s longest held and most resilient female political prisoners, remains detained in Qarchak despite her deteriorating health condition. According to informed sources inside the prison, Maryam Akbari Monfared has been suffering for months from severe back and knee pain, numbness in her legs, and mobility impairment. Despite repeated recommendations from medical specialists and an official report from the Legal Medicine Organization (forensic authority) confirming the urgent need for daily physiotherapy and medical care, prison authorities have consistently refused to transfer her to a medical facility.
PMOI Resistance Units Confront Iran’s Execution Spree with Defiance and Calls for Regime Change
As Iran’s clerical regime intensifies its campaign of mass executions in a desperate bid to suppress dissent, its principal opposition, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), is meeting the brutality with defiance and determination. Across the country, MEK-affiliated Resistance Units are amplifying their actions, signaling that the regime’s violence will only deepen the people’s resolve for freedom.
Recent events in Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchestan province, underscore this growing defiance. On October 10, 2025, amid heavy security and repression, PMOI Resistance Units took to the streets to denounce the regime’s killing spree. They displayed banners and posters condemning the executions and calling for the overthrow of the ruling theocracy.
Iranian Regime Amputates Fingers of Prisoner Despite Victim’s Consent to Forgive
The Iranian regime has once again carried out one of its most inhumane punishments — the amputation of a prisoner’s fingers — despite the victim’s full consent to forgive.
According to reports, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, the authorities at Isfahan Central Prison (Dastgerd) amputated four fingers from the right hand of Mohsen Ashiri, a 37-year-old man from Zazeran, living in Isfahan.
Ashiri was arrested six years ago on charges of theft and sentenced by an Isfahan criminal court to six months in prison and the amputation of four fingers of his right hand. After serving his prison term, he was released on bail of one billion tomans following the plaintiff’s consent to forgive.
Iranian Regime FM: Tehran Will Never Join the Abraham Accords
Abbas Araghchi, the foreign minister of Iran’s regime, declared that the Abraham Accords are “incompatible” with the “ideals” of the Iranian regime and that Tehran will never join any peace agreements with Israel.
On the evening of Saturday, October 11, Araghchi, in an interview with the state-run IRINN, referred to recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the possibility of Iran joining the Abraham Accords and normalizing relations with Israel, saying, “Trump usually expresses what he is interested in, in different forms.”
He also described the Abraham peace agreements as “treacherous.”
Iranian Workers Cannot Afford Even One Gram of Gold with Their Monthly Minimum Wage
The price of one gram of gold in Iran has increased by more than 11,600% in just one decade, reaching over 111.4 million rials (approximately $97). Based on this, the monthly minimum wage for workers covered by Iran’s labor law is not even enough to buy one gram of gold.
The state-run Khabar Online website reported on Saturday, October 11, that the average price of one gram of gold in October 2015 was 950,000 rials (approximately $0.82).
The outlet added, “The minimum wage for workers covered by the law in 2015 was 7.12 million rials (approximately $6.1), which was equivalent to the value of 7.4 grams of gold that year.”
UN Fact-Finding Mission Expresses Concern over Unprecedented Rise in Executions in Iran
On the World Day Against the Death Penalty, the United Nations Fact-Finding Mission on Iran expressed grave concern over the shocking surge in executions, announcing that, according to reliable information, Iran’s regime has executed more than 1,000 people since the beginning of 2025. In a statement the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) announced the number of executions carried out over the past year as follows:
“Over the past year (from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025), the religious fascism ruling Iran has recorded a bloody and unprecedented record of cruelty and crime. During this period, the execution of 1,654 prisoners was documented across 31 provinces, representing a 2.3-fold increase compared to the same period the previous year (with 851 executions), and a 2.8-fold increase compared to the year before that (with 693 executions).”
