Three-minute read
September 21, first declared in 1982 as the International Day of Peace, was established to emphasize global solidarity against war and violence. Its purpose is to ensure humanitarian aid for victims of conflict and terrorism and to promote security and stability worldwide.
While “peace” is a universal aspiration, its meaning can differ depending on cultural, social, or religious contexts. From disarmament and non-interference in other nations’ affairs to the protection of human rights and stability, peace is multidimensional and must be upheld in practice, not just in words.
A Day Marked by Crisis and War
This year, the International Day of Peace is overshadowed by escalating crises across the Middle East and around the globe. Millions continue to suffer from devastating wars and state-sponsored violence. According to international reports, more than 60 million people have been displaced in recent years, making this the most severe refugee crisis since World War II. Among them, countless children have been deprived of education and a future.
The most destabilizing factor in this ongoing turmoil is the clerical regime in Iran. As the self-proclaimed guardian of extremist ideology, Tehran is the principal state sponsor of terrorism and the architect of proxy wars across the region.

Tehran: The Greatest Threat to Regional and Global Peace
Iran’s regime, through the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its terrorist Quds Force, directs proxy militias in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen. Its involvement includes financing and arming militias, destabilizing governments, and prolonging devastating wars. The regime’s ballistic missile program, in violation of UN Security Council resolutions, and its hostage-taking of foreign nationals further underline its nature as a threat to international peace.
This is not a defensive strategy, nor an exercise of legitimate power. The clerical regime’s warmongering is rooted in its fundamental domestic weakness and fear of its own people’s uprising. Exporting terrorism is the regime’s tool for survival.
The Call of the Iranian Resistance
The Iranian Resistance has long exposed the destructive role of the clerical dictatorship. It has consistently affirmed that peace, democracy, and stability in the Middle East are unattainable so long as this regime remains in power.
On April 8, 2025, message to a U.S. Senate meeting entitled “Iran Policy”, NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi stated: “The policy of exporting terrorism and fundamentalism has been clearly outlined in the regime’s Constitution. The experience of the past 46 years demonstrate that this regime does not uphold its promises and pledges. In 1988, Khomeini declared it is permitted to violate contracts and even religious obligations to preserve the regime. In the first decade of this century, following the revelation of the regime’s secret nuclear weapons sites by the NCRI, Khamenei even agreed to seal uranium enrichment sites. However, a year later, he broke all seals and expanded the regime’s nuclear activities.”

In another message to a conference held in the US senate on October 26, 2023, she further emphasized: “Appeasement of the mullahs’ regime is disastrous. Years ago, the world realized that this regime could not be reformed, nor would it change its behavior. The world must now admit that the Iranian regime cannot be appeased, either. Every concession given to the regime will fuel more wars. Another conclusion is that no solution in the Middle East will succeed unless the head of the snake in Tehran is targeted.”
Resistance as the Voice of Peace
On this International Day of Peace, it is essential to highlight not only the enemies of peace but also its true advocates. The Iranian Resistance, through its democratic platform and the Ten-Point Plan for a free Iran, has pledged to establish a republic based on democracy, equality, and peaceful coexistence with neighboring countries and the international community.
This vision stands in stark contrast to the clerical regime’s destructive policies. It demonstrates that peace is both possible and achievable.

The Path Forward
The future of peace in the Middle East depends on the removal of the Iranian regime, the main source of instability and conflict. A democratic Iran, free from the tyranny of any dictatorship, will open the path to cooperation, brotherhood, and shared prosperity in the region.
On this International Day of Peace, the message is clear: as long as the clerical dictatorship remains in power, peace will remain out of reach. Only with its overthrow and the establishment of a free, democratic Iran can the white flag of peace be raised over a region long torn by fire and blood.
